Full job description

You will need an Enhanced Adult & Child DBS for this role. This will be provided by St Helena Hospice.

We are currently looking for Massage Therapists, Aromatherapists and Reflexologists - for alternate weeks, school holidays on a Wednesday (must be qualified to level 3).

The use of complementary therapies in palliative care has become an increasingly significant feature of health care and evidence shows that therapies can support the emotional, mental, spiritual and physical wellbeing of patients and their families and carers, and those facing loss and bereavement.

Research has shown that its use alongside conventional medicine can help enhance relaxation and well-being, and relieve stress and anxiety, as well as help with the management of specific issues such as symptom control of fatigue, breathlessness, nausea, and pain. All complementary therapies are characterised by treating the whole person, considering the mental, emotional and physical factors associated with the challenges they face. Complementary therapies work with the total care given, to promote comfort and support for both patients and their families/carers. We also support those who access our bereavement services.

We are currently recruiting qualified complementary therapists and/or beauty therapists in the following areas to join our team of volunteers:

· Massage

· Aromatherapy

· Reflexology

· Holistic Facial Therapy

· Reiki

· Indian Head Massage

· Shiatsu practitioners

You will be required to participate as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, offering treatments to patients and relatives both within the hospice and the local communities.

To be able to:

  • Sign in at Reception when arriving for duty and sign out on leaving.
  • Wear appropriate, professional uniform as supplied and discussed in dress code policy
  • Wear st Helena ID badge.

· Safely prepare their working environment by minimising any risk factors

· To work independently by adhering to the CT policy & procedures as well as the Code of Practice for st Helena therapies

· Confidently assess the patient/client and recognise factors to consider and adjust treatments according to the CT policy & procedures

· Confidently assist the patient/client and always ensure their comfort before, during and after the treatment

· Confidently recognise any contra-actions and report any concerns to the complementary therapy team lead or clinical staff on duty

· Adhere to the Lone Worker policy (community therapists)
