Registrar of births, deaths and marriages

We have an excellent opportunity for a motivated Registrar to join us as key members of the Register Office team here at Wokingham Borough Council based at Shute End, Wokingham on a full time, permanent basis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for registering all births, deaths and marriages which occur within the Wokingham District.
  • To act as a Deputy Superintendent Registrar when required and support in the smooth running of the Service.
  • Identify and support opportunities for the development and commercialisation of the service.

Other duties include the production of copy certificates and taking part in marriage, citizenship and other non-statutory ceremonies.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing, to a variety of audiences
  • Ability to understand and apply complex legal regulations.
  • Experience of training staff and giving support and professional direction to deputy and casual registrars
  • To be able to work, when necessary, at weekends for faith death registrations as well as attend ceremonies.
  • Previous registration experience of births, deaths, marriages and civil partnerships as a Deputy Registrar is essential.
