Contract Type: Permanent
Overview:
We’re looking for a driven Membership Development Manager to join the Online Responsibility Network (ORN) and play a central role in growing our membership community.
This is a new-business role focused on converting prospective organisations into paying ORN members. You’ll own the end-to-end commercial process for a defined portfolio of named accounts, from first contact through to signed agreement, and will be accountable for delivering against member acquisition and revenue targets.
ORN operates at the heart of the online safety agenda, supporting organisations to understand and demonstrate responsible practice in an increasingly complex regulatory environment. As a Membership Development Manager, you’ll use a consultative, advisory approach to engage prospective members, helping them understand their obligations, the challenges they face and how ORN can support them through membership, frameworks, assurance and shared learning.
Because of the nature of these roles and the conversations you’ll be leading, it is essential that you bring experience working in online safety or a closely related field. This could include areas such as trust and safety, digital regulation, platform governance, responsible advertising, risk and compliance, content moderation, safeguarding, technology policy, digital risk or another adjacent environment where online harms, regulation, consumer trust or digital responsibility are central.
What you’ll be doing:
- Owning and developing a defined portfolio of organisations, managing each opportunity from first contact through to signed membership agreement.
- Identifying and building a strong pipeline of new commercial opportunities across your target market, taking a proactive approach to prospecting and account development.
- Leading a consultative, education-led sales process, helping prospective members understand their regulatory obligations, organisational risks and how ORN can support them through membership.
- Building trusted relationships with senior decision-makers and stakeholders, using a considered and credible approach to commercial conversations.
- Presenting ORN’s membership proposition with confidence, drawing on the framework, assurance process and member offer to demonstrate value and relevance.
- Working towards, and seeking to exceed, agreed member acquisition and revenue targets.
- Managing pipeline activity through clear commercial metrics, including activity levels, conversion rates and close rates, while maintaining accurate records.
- Providing regular pipeline updates and revenue forecasts to support planning and reporting.
- Representing ORN at industry events and external meetings, building awareness, credibility and warm pipeline opportunities.
What you’ll bring to the role:
- A strong track record of winning new business through a consultative, considered sales approach, rather than high-volume or purely transactional selling.
- Experience of building and developing a commercial pipeline from the ground up, with the ability to create opportunities rather than rely solely on an inherited contact base.
- Strong relationship-building skills and the confidence to engage credibly with senior decision-makers.
- Experience managing sales activity through CRM systems, with a disciplined approach to pipeline management, forecasting and reporting.
- The ability to explain complex or unfamiliar concepts clearly, helping prospective members understand regulatory, assurance or governance-related issues without overcomplicating the conversation.
Essential:
Experience working in online safety or a closely related field. This may include experience in trust and safety, platform governance, digital regulation, responsible advertising, compliance, risk, safeguarding, content moderation, digital policy, consumer protection, online harms, technology regulation or a similarly relevant environment.
Why join ORN?
This is an opportunity to join a growing organisation working at the centre of one of the most important and fast-moving areas of digital policy and practice. You’ll have the chance to shape relationships with organisations navigating online safety challenges, influence how ORN grows its membership community and contribute to work that supports greater responsibility, trust and accountability online.
Work Location: Hybrid remote in Warrington (Cheshire, North West Region)
