  • Build strong working relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure excellent customer outcomes.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate case records and documentation.
  • Manage multiple cases and priorities while meeting agreed service levels.
  • Learn and develop expertise in medical underwriting processes, products and regulatory requirements.
  • Use technology, including AI-powered tools where appropriate, to improve efficiency, accuracy and customer experience.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify processes and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Handle confidential medical information responsibly, ensuring compliance with data protection, information security and regulatory requirements.
  • Support fair customer outcomes by operating in line with Consumer Duty principles and Unum's values and standards.

As your experience grows, you'll have the chance to explore broader career pathways across the underwriting function.

  • Good numerical and analytical skills.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
  • Confidence using technology and learning new systems, particularly bespoke software and digital tools.
  • An interest in how AI and emerging technologies can improve ways of working and customer service.
  • A self-motivated approach, with the ability to work independently and make sound decisions within established guidelines.
  • A collaborative mindset and willingness to learn from coaching, feedback and experience.
  • A genuine desire to provide excellent customer service with empathy and professionalism.
  • Degree educated is preferred but not essential.
  • A degree in Biology, Life Sciences, Health Sciences or a related scientific discipline would be particularly beneficial.
  • A-level qualifications, or equivalent.
