Insect Farm Labourer (Production Support)

Reporting to:

Production Supervisor / Operations Manager

Role Purpose

The Insect Farm Labourer provides essential operational support to Fairman Knight’s

insect farming and circular bio-manufacturing activities. The role focuses primarily on

waste feedstock preparation, site hygiene, and equipment cleaning, ensuring that

production areas are safe, clean, and ready for use in line with food safety,

environmental, and biosecurity standards.

This is a practical, hands-on role suited to individuals who are reliable, safety-

conscious, and comfortable working in an industrial/agri-tech environment.

Key ResponsibilitiesFeedstock Preparation

• Assist with the handling, sorting, and preparation of surplus food waste

feedstock.

• Remove contamination (e.g. packaging or foreign materials) in accordance with

site procedures.

• Load prepared feedstock into designated processing or storage areas.
• Follow instructions to ensure correct feedstock handling and segregation.

Cleaning and Hygiene

• Carry out routine cleaning of production equipment, tools, floors, and work

areas.

• Support wash-down and sanitation procedures in insect rearing and

processing zones.

• Ensure cleaning tasks are completed to required hygiene and biosecurity

standards.

• Safely use cleaning chemicals and equipment following training and

instructions.

General Site Duties

• Support daily production activities as directed by supervisors.
• Assist with waste removal and housekeeping to maintain a tidy and safe site.
• Follow all health, safety, and environmental procedures.
• Report any equipment faults, spillages, or safety concerns promptly.

Health, Safety & Compliance

• Comply with all Health & Safety, environmental, and biosecurity procedures.
• Use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) correctly at all times.
• Attend mandatory training and follow site rules.
• Work safely around machinery, vehicles, and biological materials.

Skills and Experience

Essential Willingness to carry out manual and repetitive tasks.

• Ability to follow instructions and standard operating procedures.
• Good timekeeping and reliability.
• Basic understanding of cleanliness and hygiene in a work environment.

Desirable (not essential)

• Experience in factory, agricultural, waste, or food-handling environments.
• Familiarity with cleaning machinery or industrial cleaning processes.
• Interest in sustainability, agriculture, or circular economy work.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand for extended periods.
• Ability to carry out light to moderate manual handling.
• Comfortable working in a warm, industrial environment.
• Able to carry out cleaning tasks involving bending, lifting, and reaching.
