Full job description
Overview of Responsibilities
As Programme and Socio-Economic Analyst, you will play a key role in demonstrating the value and impact of UKAEA’s programmes and investments. Working within the Executive Office, you will lead analytical projects that inform strategic decision-making, support future funding bids, and provide robust evidence of the economic and societal benefits generated by fusion research and innovation. This is a highly visible role, requiring close collaboration with senior leaders across UKAEA, government departments and external partners.

What You’ll Be Doing
- Lead the appraisal, evaluation and benefits realisation of major UKAEA programmes and investments.
- Design and deliver economic, quantitative and qualitative analysis to support business cases, value-for-money assessments and strategic decision-making.
- Develop methodologies and evidence frameworks to measure the socio-economic impact of fusion research and innovation.
- Implement and continuously improve UKAEA’s monitoring and evaluation framework across programmes and projects.
- Commission and manage external research and evaluation activities to strengthen the organisational evidence base.
- Produce high-quality analytical reports, insights and recommendations for senior leaders, government stakeholders and funding bodies.
- Support future Spending Review submissions through robust analysis and evidence gathering.
- Embed analytical best practice across UKAEA, providing guidance and training aligned to HM Treasury Green Book and Magenta Book principles.
- Build strong relationships with internal technical experts and external stakeholders, including government departments, research councils and delivery partners.
- Line manage and develop junior analytical staff while contributing to the growth of analytical capability across the wider organisation.
Qualifications
- Degree in Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Social Science or a related analytical discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- Demonstrable experience delivering economic, statistical, social or operational research, including contributions to business cases and value-for-money assessments.
- Strong understanding of UK Government analytical frameworks, including the HM Treasury Green Book and Aqua Book.
- Proven ability to design, deliver and interpret high-quality analysis using complex data to inform strategic decisions and investment priorities.
- Experience leading analytical programmes and teams, managing stakeholders, and delivering across multiple projects and competing priorities.
- Excellent communication and delivery skills, including presenting complex findings to senior audiences.
