Full job description

We are seeking an experienced, multi-skilled, research scientist/engineer to work in the small team developing a breathalyser for narcotics. The ideal candidate will have experience in innovative research, leading to product development, particularly in the development of highly sensitive (bio)sensors using electronic and/or optical means.

Experience of designing and implementing laboratory experiments and field trials will be essential.

You will be joining a multi-disciplined team of bio-chemists, engineers and scientists, tackling an important but highly technically challenging problem with a significant commercial potential in the UK, US and globally.

NB we are not currently able to sponsor Skilled Worker Visas.

Key responsibilities

· Innovation and implementation transduction mechanisms for biosensors, with the focus on materials and novel device arrangements

· Design, fabrication and testing of biosensors and novel sensing mechanisms

· Driving microfluidic design strategies for multiple sensing

· Experimental analysis including Quartz Crystal Microbalance based techniques

· Interaction with academic partners

Key requirements

You must have:-

· device physics background (e.g organic and inorganic FETs/ECTs etc)

· biosensors background – ideally electrical transduction mechanisms

· good understanding of the chemistry and biochemistry of proteins, aptamers etc

· solid experimental design and implementation skills

· strong data analysis skills

· experience with QCM analysis

· industrial/commercial research experience

It would be an advantage to have:-

· cleanroom fabrication skills (deposition, photolithography, wet/dry etching etc)

· mechanical design skills

· microfluidics design and implementation skills

· strong LabView programming skills

· postgraduate or PhD level experience of self guided research

You might have:-

· electronics design and automation skills and experiences

· experience in human testing

· experience of product development and pre-production roll out
