Full job description

Part-Time Chef de Partie – Cookery School

Old Street, London EC1 | £20 per hour | 16–24 hours per week

We’re looking for an enthusiastic, cheerful and experienced part-time chef de partie to join our established cookery school, trading for 23 years located a few minutes’ walk from Old Street Station.

This isn’t a typical restaurant chef role. You’ll be working in our professional teaching kitchens, helping to prepare and deliver corporate events in a relaxed, sociable environment.

This is very much a customer-facing role, so you must enjoy interacting with people, be confident communicating with guests and have fluent spoken English.

The hours

Normally 8–24 hours per week, with additional hours available during busy periods.

During our busy Christmas season in November and December, we guarantee a minimum of 40 hours per week up to 18 December.

The role involves a mixture of daytime and evening work depending on our event schedule.

The role

You’ll be involved in:

  • Preparing ingredients and mise en place for cookery classes and events
  • Cooking and assisting with food preparation
  • Supporting our chef’s during corporate and public cookery events
  • Interacting directly with guests and helping them during hands-on cooking sessions
  • Explaining techniques and answering guests’ questions where appropriate
  • Maintaining high standards of food hygiene and kitchen organisation
  • Assisting with kitchen set-up and close-down

Who we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • A competent and experienced chef
  • Fluent in spoken English
  • Confident, friendly and comfortable in a customer-facing role
  • Able to communicate clearly with guests
  • Reliable, punctual and well organised
  • Comfortable working as part of a small happy team
  • Happy working in an interactive environment rather than a traditional restaurant kitchen
  • Passionate about food and enjoys working with people

Previous teaching experience isn’t essential — personality, communication skills, reliability and good kitchen skills are more important.

What we offer

£16-£20.00 per hour, regular part-time work and substantially increased hours during our busy Christmas season.

You’ll work in a very different environment from a traditional restaurant kitchen, with varied events, interesting food and plenty of interaction with our guests.

This role could be particularly suited to an experienced chef who still loves cooking but is looking to move away from the long hours and pressures of a full-time restaurant kitchen or perhaps someone working within contact catering looking to add extra hours by undertaking evening shifts

If you’re a great chef who also enjoys meeting and talking to people, we’d love to hear from you.

Please apply with a short introduction to include the words “this looks right up my street” and your CV.

Pay: £16.00-£20.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 16.0 per week

Benefits:

  • Discounted or free food
  • Flexible schedule

Work Location: In person
