Macclesfield RUFC is seeking an experienced, hands on General Manager to lead the day to day running of the Club, drive commercial growth, and ensure our facilities, events and hospitality deliver an outstanding experience for members, visitors and the wider community.

This is a key leadership role at the heart of a proud, ambitious community rugby club.

About the Role

You will oversee all operational, hospitality and commercial activity across the Club, including bar management, events, pitch lettings, facilities, community partnerships and staff leadership. You’ll be visible on match days, proactive in growing income, and confident coordinating a busy multi sport site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the bar and hospitality offer, ensuring excellent service, stock control and supplier relationships.
  • Lead delivery of match days, club events, private functions and community activities.
  • Grow income from clubhouse hire, outdoor space lettings and astroturf pitch bookings.
  • Coordinate pitch and facility schedules across all rugby sections.
  • Build strong relationships with schools, local clubs, charities and community partners.
  • Oversee daily site operations including security, cleaning, contractors and grounds maintenance.
  • Manage bar/hospitality staff and support admin/bookkeeping functions.
  • Ensure compliance with licensing, health & safety, food hygiene and safeguarding standards.
  • Provide clear financial reporting to the Committee and support commercial decision making.
  • Support club communications, social media and local marketing to promote membership and events.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience running a bar, hospitality venue, sports club or similar customer facing operation.
  • Strong organisational skills and confidence managing bookings, events and competing priorities.
  • Excellent people skills with the ability to work with members, volunteers, parents, players and external hirers.
  • Commercial mindset with the ability to grow revenue while maintaining quality and controlling costs.
  • Good IT and admin skills (email, spreadsheets, booking systems, basic reporting).
  • Calm, practical and hands on — especially on busy match days and events.
  • Knowledge of licensing, H&S and compliance (training can be provided).

DBS check may be required due to regular contact with junior rugby activity.

General Manager– Macclesfield Rugby Union Football Club

Driving operational excellence, community engagement and sustainable growth at MRUFC.

Role Purpose

The General Manager is responsible for the day‑to‑day running of Macclesfield RUFC, ensuring the Club operates safely, efficiently and in a welcoming, community‑focused manner. The role combines operational leadership, commercial management, facilities oversight and strong relationship‑building to grow income, participation and the Club’s reputation.

Key Responsibilities

1. Bar, Hospitality & Customer Experience

· Manage the bar operation, ensuring high service standards and a welcoming environment.

· Oversee stock control, cellar management, supplier relationships, pricing and cash handling.

· Deliver a consistent, high‑quality hospitality offer for members, visitors and event clients.

2. Events & Matchday Operations

· Lead planning and delivery of all Club events: match days, clubhouse functions, outdoor events, private hires and community activities.

· Produce event budgets, risk assessments and operational plans.

· Coordinate logistics including staffing, catering, equipment, safety and customer flow.

3. Facilities Hire & Commercial Income

· Maximise revenue from clubhouse room hire, outdoor space lettings and commercial partnerships.

· Manage enquiries, bookings, contracts, invoicing and customer communication.

· Promote facilities to local organisations, teams, schools and community groups.

4. Astroturf Pitch Management

· Oversee all aspects of pitch lettings: enquiries, bookings, contracts, invoicing and access control.

· Ensure lighting, cleanliness and maintenance are coordinated and delivered to a high standard.

· Maintain accurate schedules and ensure safe, efficient use of the pitch.

5. Community & Partnership Development

· Build strong relationships with schools, local clubs, charities, councils and community organisations.

· Promote participation and encourage wider use of Club facilities.

· Represent the Club professionally at local events and partnership meetings.

6. Site Operations & Maintenance

· Oversee daily site operations including opening/closing, security, cleaning and contractor management.

· Ensure pitches, clubhouse and outdoor areas are safe, presentable and well maintained.

· Coordinate planned grounds maintenance and respond to issues promptly.

7. Finance, Reporting & Accountability

· Be financially accountable for bar performance, event profitability, pitch/space hire income and grounds maintenance costs.

· Produce clear financial reporting for the Committee/Treasurer.

· Support budgeting, cost control and commercial decision‑making.

8. Club Promotion & Communications

· Support Club communications, including social media coordination, signage, newsletters and local marketing.

· Promote membership, events, bookings and community engagement.

· Ensure consistent, positive representation of MRUFC.

People, Compliance & Standards

Staff Management

· Line manage the Bar Manager, bar/hospitality staff and any admin/bookkeeping support.

· Set rotas and ensure appropriate staffing for match days, events and peak periods.

· Provide leadership, coaching and support to staff and volunteers.

Licensing & Safety

· Ensure compliance with alcohol licensing, age checks and responsible service.

· Maintain strong health & safety practice: risk assessments, contractor controls, accident reporting and safe systems of work.

· Ensure food hygiene standards are met where applicable.

Safeguarding & Conduct

· Support safeguarding standards for juniors and vulnerable groups, working with the Club Safeguarding Officer.

· Handle complaints and incidents professionally, recording actions taken.

· Follow GDPR requirements when handling member, customer and booking information.

· Avoid conflicts of interest and declare any personal or professional interests.

· Uphold high professional integrity; any external employment must be approved by the Executive Committee.

Skills & Experience Required

· Experience running a bar, hospitality venue, sports club or similar customer‑facing operation.
