Assistant General manager - The Role

The Black Horse is ambitious, fast-paced and quality-driven. As Assistant General Manager, you will be at the heart of the business — leading from the front on the floor while also mastering the detail behind the scenes.

This is a role for someone who wants to grow into a future General Manager within a progressive, sustainable company.

You will help shape the culture, drive standards, and inspire a team that shares your passion for food, wine and genuine hospitality.

Assistant General manager Responsibilities

  • Leading service with confidence, warmth and precision
  • Managing, training and developing a team against budget
  • Delivering inspiring daily briefings that ignite passion
  • Sharing deep knowledge of seasonal British produce and wine
  • Driving guest relations and bookings to achieve targets
  • Supporting event planning and execution
  • Overseeing wine and cocktail development with seasonal focus
  • Upholding exceptional food hygiene & health and safety standards
  • Handling high-profile guests with discretion and professionalism
  • Supporting the General Manager in building a positive, ambitious team culture

Who We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience as a Restaurant Manager or strong Assistant Manager ready to step up
  • Experience in fast-paced, quality-led dining environments
  • A genuine love of British seasonal produce
  • Strong wine knowledge (WSET training encouraged — or ambition to pursue it)
  • A natural leader who motivates and develops others
  • Organised and commercially aware
  • Energetic, hands-on and resilient
  • Hungry to grow, learn and build a long-term career in hospitality
