Assistant Manager – Wokingham

Who are we?

American Amusements Holdings Limited (AAHL) is the parent company of three successful ‘Superbowl’ branded Family Entertainment Centres operating at Woking, Wokingham and Ryde. Each centre offers a dynamic mix of leisure activities including Tenpin Bowling, Laser Quest, Amusements, and Party Rooms alongside a strong F&B offering.

We are now seeking an experienced and motivated Assistant Manager to support the leadership of our Wokingham Superbowl site. This is a hands-on management role suited to someone who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, is passionate about people and service delivery, and is ready to play a key role in the success of a busy leisure & hospitality venue.

About The Role

As Assistant Manager, you will support the Centre Manager in delivering operational excellence, strong commercial performance, guest satisfaction, and team development. You will lead from the front on shift, balancing day-to-day operations with people leadership, compliance, and service standards.

A key part of your role will be supporting, coaching, and developing Duty Managers and team members, ensuring consistent standards, strong engagement, and a positive culture throughout the business.

You will regularly act as site Duty Manager, taking responsibility for the safe, efficient and successful running of the centre, ensuring due diligence and operational compliance are met and that standards are consistently delivered.

This role is perfect for an ambitious manager who is energetic, commercially aware, and keen to develop their leadership skills while driving results.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

· Support all aspects of daily centre operations, ensuring a smooth, safe, and high-quality guest experience.

· Maintain high standards in presentation, service, compliance, and safety.

· Support maintenance reporting and ensure issues are escalated and followed up promptly.

· Motivate, coach and support Duty Managers and team members, acting as a positive role model.

· Support rota planning and labour control in line with business targets.

· Ensure operational procedures (SOPs, logbook systems, checklists) are consistently followed.

Compliance & Safety

· Support the Centre Manager in maintaining full Health & Safety compliance.

· Ensure all daily, weekly and monthly checks are completed accurately and on time.

· Promote a strong Health & Safety culture across the team.

· Manage incidents confidently and escalate appropriately.

· Support compliance audits and inspections as required and contribute to maintaining the centre’s 5* Food Hygiene Rating.

Financial & Commercial Management

· Support the delivery of strong commercial performance across all revenue streams: Bowling, Laser Quest, Machines and F&B.

· Assist with cash handling, stock control and GP margin performance.

· Support accurate stock counts, reconciliations and ordering processes.

· Monitor labour efficiency during shifts and support cost control.

· Identify opportunities to improve sales, service and guest spend.

Sales, Marketing & Business Development

· Support the delivery of bookings, events and promotions.

· Ensure parties, group bookings and events are delivered to a high standard.

· Assist with in-centre promotions, digital screens and local marketing initiatives.

· Build positive relationships with guests and represent the business professionally at all times.

People, Training & Culture

· Lead by example and help create a positive, high-performing team culture.

· Support the training, onboarding and development of new starters.

· Coach team members to improve performance and service standards.

· Support Duty Managers in their ongoing development.

· Assist with recruitment, training and performance management as required.

Working Pattern

· The successful candidate will be required to maintain a flexible working pattern responsive to the needs of the business. This will include working evenings, weekends and school holidays. This role requires a strong operational presence and commitment to leading from the front.

What We’re Looking For

· Experience in a supervisory or management role within leisure, hospitality, retail, or a similar fast-paced environment.

· Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and support teams.

· Good understanding of operational standards, compliance and guest experience.

· Commercial awareness with experience of labour control and stock management.

· Highly organised with good communication skills and attention to detail.

· A proactive, hands-on manager who enjoys being operationally involved.

· Personal Licence, First Aid at Work, and DBS certification (or willingness to obtain).
