Full job description

About West Hove Golf Club

West Hove Golf Club is an established private members’ club with a busy clubhouse serving members, guests, golf societies, functions and external events. We are seeking an experienced, commercially aware Food and Beverage Manager to lead our hospitality operation and help us deliver consistently excellent service.

The opportunity

This is a hands-on leadership role with responsibility for the day-to-day food and beverage operation, team performance, financial results and compliance.

A central part of the position is the management of functions and events. You will take ownership of the complete customer journey—from the first enquiry and initial meeting through pricing, planning and coordination to successful delivery on the day and post-event follow-up. You will work closely with our Chef’s and wider Club team to create well-planned events that delight customers and deliver sustainable revenue for the Club.

What you’ll be responsible for

  • Leading the daily food and beverage operation across the Club’s bar, dining and function areas.
  • Managing function and event customers from initial enquiry through quotation, booking, detailed planning, delivery and follow-up.
  • Working with the Head Chef to develop menus, packages, service plans and commercially sound pricing.
  • Creating clear event plans and coordinating room set-up, staffing, equipment, timings, suppliers, allergens and special requirements.
  • Being a visible and confident manager during busy services and events, resolving customer concerns professionally.
  • Leading, training and motivating the team; preparing effective rotas and maintaining strong service standards.
  • Managing budgets, sales, margins, labour costs, purchasing, stock control and wastage.
  • Identifying opportunities to grow food, beverage and function revenue and encourage repeat business.
  • Maintaining full compliance with food hygiene, allergen, licensing, health and safety and employment requirements.
  • Keeping the Club diary and internal teams fully informed of all confirmed event arrangements.

About you

You will be a practical, organised hospitality leader who enjoys being visible in the operation and takes personal pride in the customer experience. Just as importantly, you will have the commercial judgement and attention to detail needed to turn an initial event enquiry into a successful, well-delivered occasion.

  • Proven experience as a Food and Beverage Manager, Hospitality Manager, Events and Operations Manager or an experienced deputy ready for the next step.
  • Clear evidence of managing functions or events end to end, including customer communication, pricing, planning and live delivery.
  • Strong people-leadership skills and experience of rotas, training and performance management.
  • Commercial experience covering budgets, margins, labour, purchasing and stock control.
  • Excellent communication, organisation and customer-service skills.
  • Good working knowledge of food safety, allergen controls, licensing and health and safety.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and bank holidays when Club operations and events require it.

Experience in a golf club, private members’ club, hotel, conference venue or similar environment would be helpful but is not essential. A Personal Licence and recognised food safety qualification would be advantageous.

What we offer

  • A salary of £35,000–£40,000 per annum, depending on experience.
  • A full-time contract based on 35 hours per week, with flexibility to work up to 40 hours when business needs require; time off in lieu applies to hours worked beyond 40.
  • A varied role in a welcoming private members’ club, with the opportunity to shape and grow the food, beverage and events offering.

How to apply

Please apply through Indeed with your CV and a brief covering note describing an event you managed from initial customer enquiry through to delivery, together with your contribution to F&B commercial performance.

West Hove Golf Club welcomes applications from suitably qualified candidates from all backgrounds.
