Federal Café – NEW OPENING IN YORK

Position: Full-time (40-45 hours per week) Assistant General Manager
Expected start date: 9th of November 2026

About Federal

Federal is all about great food, great coffee and genuinely brilliant service. We’re getting ready to open our brand-new café in York, and we’re looking for an experienced Assistant General Manager to join us from the end of October and help us bring Federal to a new city.

This is a brilliant opportunity to be part of a new opening from the very beginning - helping us build the team, set the standards and create the kind of customer experience that keeps people coming back.

The Role

This is a hands-on role. We’re looking for someone who loves being on the floor, leading from the front and creating a great atmosphere for both our customers and our team.

You’ll work closely with the General Manager to get the new site up and running, build a strong team culture from day one and make sure every customer who walks through the door gets the warm, friendly Federal experience we’re known for.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Leading from the front and being a real presence on the floor
  • Making sure every customer receives warm, friendly and genuinely great service
  • Supporting the GM with the day-to-day running of the café
  • Leading busy shifts and keeping the team motivated and focused
  • Setting the standard for what great service looks like
  • Coaching, training and developing the team, particularly through the opening period
  • Getting to know our customers and helping us build a real community around the new café
  • Supporting with rotas, stock, ordering and the general organisation of the site
  • Handling customer feedback and resolving any issues confidently and professionally
  • Keeping standards high across cleanliness, food safety and health & safety
  • Stepping up and taking ownership when the GM isn’t there

Who We’re Looking For:

You’ll already have experience as an Assistant Manager, Supervisor or in a similar leadership role within hospitality.

More importantly, we want someone who is naturally great with people. Someone who notices customers, gets stuck in when it’s busy and would never ask their team to do something they wouldn’t do themselves.

You’ll be confident leading a team, calm under pressure, organised and passionate about creating a café that people genuinely want to come back to.
