Full job description

Overview
The George Hotel in Penrith is seeking an experienced Head Chef to lead our kitchen operation and shape the future food offer of this landmark property. This is a senior leadership role with responsibility for quality, team development, cost control and commercial performance across restaurant, bar and events trade.

You will work closely with the Hotel Manager and Everbright Hotels Group to deliver consistent standards, develop menus and drive profitability while building a strong kitchen culture.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise the kitchen team, fostering a positive and productive working environment.
  • Oversee food production processes to ensure consistency, quality, and presentation meet brand standards.
  • Develop and update menus in collaboration with management, incorporating seasonal ingredients and current culinary trends.
  • Manage food safety protocols in compliance with health regulations and company policies.
  • Coordinate daily kitchen operations, including inventory control, stock ordering, and waste management.
  • Train and mentor junior kitchen staff to enhance their skills and professional development.
  • Ensure all dishes are prepared to the highest standards of taste, appearance, and hygiene.
  • Collaborate with front-of-house staff to ensure seamless service delivery.
  • Monitor kitchen cleanliness and organisation to uphold health and safety standards.
  • Assist in recruiting new team members and conducting performance reviews.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as Head Chef or Senior Sous Chef in a hotel or high-volume kitchen.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Commercial awareness with experience managing food margins and labour.
  • Knowledge of food safety standards and compliance requirements.
  • Experience in menu development and kitchen operations.
  • Excellent organisation and ability to perform under pressure.

Pay: £40,500.00-£43,500.00 per year

Ability to commute/relocate:
