Assistant Pub Manager – The Swan, Marbury

We're looking for an Assistant Pub Manager to join us at The Swan in Marbury, working alongside our General Manager and Deputy Pub Manager to help run this busy, multi-award-winning country pub.

The Swan sits in the beautiful village of Marbury, around 20 minutes from Nantwich and 10 minutes from Whitchurch.

Our food is predominantly British, with traditional pub classics alongside seasonal dishes. We use fresh, quality ingredients, with everything prepared and cooked in-house in our fully induction-equipped kitchen. On the bar, you'll find a good selection of beers, wines and spirits, including wines we blend and import ourselves and our own beer.

The job

We like our managers to take an active part in running their pubs.

You'll work closely with the General Manager and Deputy Manager and be involved in all aspects of the day-to-day running of The Swan. We're looking for someone who will get to know the pub, its customers and its team, contribute ideas and take an active part in how the business develops.

You'll be part of the management team, spending plenty of time on the floor, running shifts, looking after customers and leading the team, while also being involved in the wider management of the pub.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Running shifts and supporting the day-to-day operation of the pub
• Leading, motivating and developing the team
• Supporting recruitment, induction and staff training
• Maintaining our standards across the business
• Cellar management and beer quality
• Food, health & safety and licensing compliance
• Assisting with rota planning and wage management
• Managing our online booking system
• EPOS management, reporting and analysis
• Management of the Inventory and HR system
• Supporting end-of-week procedures and financial controls
• Working with suppliers and sourcing good products at sensible prices to achieve GP targets
• Helping plan events and promotions
• Contributing ideas to our food and drink offer
• Working with the General Manager and Deputy Pub Manager to achieve the pub's sales and profit targets

Who we're looking for

Previous management experience within a busy pub or hospitality business would be an advantage, but we're more interested in finding the right person.

If you're confident with customers, enjoy leading people, have a genuine interest in food and drink and are willing to take responsibility, we'd like to hear from you.

Our managers are hosts as much as they are managers, so being comfortable on the floor, noticing what's happening around you and setting a good example for the team matters to us.

We can teach you the fundamentals of running a pub. What we're looking for is someone with the right attitude, a willingness to learn and the ambition to develop into a good manager.

We'd like our Assistant Pub Managers to become our future Deputy Pub Managers and General Managers, so we'll give you the opportunity to develop your knowledge of the whole business, including people management, service, stock, rotas, costs and the commercial side of running a pub.

We invest in training where it's useful, including management and health & safety qualifications, WSET wine courses and degree apprenticeship programmes. If you're ambitious and capable, there is room to progress.

A driving licence is essential because The Swan is in a rural location and public transport is not available.
