The Role…

The Assistant Manager plays a visible, hands-on leadership role in delivering outstanding hospitality and facility standards across The Stables.

You will support the Clubhouse Manager in leading front-of-house operations, ensuring exceptional service for members, golfers, visitors, and event guests. You will also help drive commercial growth, maintain operational standards, and contribute to Royal Norwich’s ambition to grow hospitality into a significant profit centre.

As an ambassador for the club, you will demonstrate our core values at all times and work collaboratively with the wider management team for the overall success of the business. You will lead by example, inspire your team through positive leadership, and create memorable guest experiences through consistent, professional service.

Key Responsibilities :Operations & Guest Experience

  • Oversee the day-to-day shift operations of front-of-house teams, housekeeping, and service delivery within The Stables.
  • Ensure consistently high guest satisfaction and service standards.
  • Coordinate effectively with Golf Operations, Sales & Events, Greenkeeping, and other departments to deliver seamless service.
  • Support the review, development, and implementation of policies, SOPs, and service standards.
  • Monitor guest feedback and implement improvements based on trends and insight.
  • Resolve guest complaints professionally, escalating where appropriate.
  • Carry out hands-on shift management as required by the business.
  • Conduct end-of-shift checks across FOH and BOH areas to ensure cleanliness, compliance, and checklist completion.
  • Report maintenance or equipment issues promptly to ensure timely resolution.

Food & Beverage Performance

  • Support revenue growth initiatives across food, beverage, and events.
  • Work with the Clubhouse Manager and marketing team to deliver annual budgets.
  • Ensure POS systems are accurate, updated, and correctly priced.
  • Support stock control, ordering, and supplier compliance.
  • Help ensure menu items and drinks are served to agreed specifications to protect margins and consistency.
  • Attend weekly management meetings to review budgets, targets, and performance.
  • Identify opportunities to grow sales and enhance commercial performance.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Supervise, motivate, and develop hospitality team members.
  • Assist with recruitment, induction, training, and performance reviews.
  • Deliver regular coaching and on-shift feedback.
  • Create clear service plans and team briefings for each shift.
  • Identify training and development opportunities within the team.
  • Support onboarding processes and training documentation.
  • Ensure compliance training is completed and kept up to date.
  • Identify your own development needs and discuss with the Clubhouse Manager.

Staffing & Labour Management

  • Support rota planning to ensure effective labour deployment and fair scheduling.
  • Monitor wage costs in line with budgets.
  • Maintain high standards of presentation, uniform, and professionalism.
  • Ensure sufficient staffing levels to meet business needs.

Compliance, Safety & Standards

  • Ensure compliance with food safety, licensing, health & safety, and employment legislation.
  • Support achievement and maintenance of a 5-star food hygiene rating.
  • Ensure all cleaning schedules, checklists, and records are completed accurately.
  • Work with the Compliance Manager to ensure team training remains current.
  • Manage HR matters professionally with support from senior management and HR where required.

Skills & ExperienceEssential

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in hospitality supervision or management.
  • Strong front-of-house leadership experience in a fast-paced environment.
  • Passion for delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and develop teams.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritise.
  • Commercial awareness and budget understanding.
  • Flexible approach to working evenings, weekends, and busy peak periods.

Desirable

  • Experience in golf, leisure, hotel, or club environments.
  • Experience supporting events and functions.

Basic Salary

Expected Hours of Work

40 hours per week. The Assistant Manager will be expected to work outside of normal office hours, this will include evenings and weekends to meet the needs of the business.
