Full job description

Overview

Swanspool Pavilion Café & Kitchen is opening in Wellingborough's Swanspool Gardens this autumn — a brand-new independent café inside a beautifully restored 1920s pavilion, run by an experienced chef-owner. We're looking for a capable, hands-on Deputy Supervisor to join us from the beginning and help build a café known for freshly prepared food, good coffee and genuinely welcoming service. You'll lead café service, take charge of opening and closing, and act as duty lead when the owner is off-site — training the team, keeping standards high, and being the steady presence that keeps service running smoothly. This is a permanent, 30-hour-a-week role at £15.00 per hour, with a genuine opportunity to grow into a management role as the business grows.

Duties

  • Lead café service and act as duty lead when the owner is elsewhere on site or away from the premises
  • Open and close the building safely, and allocate work and lead team briefings
  • Maintain front-of-house, coffee and customer-service standards
  • Operate and reconcile the till, and complete cash and closing controls
  • Check food-safety, allergen, cleaning and temperature records
  • Receive deliveries, maintain stock rotation and help control waste
  • Resolve routine customer complaints and provide a reliable handover to the owner
  • Train and coach café assistants, and support new starters
  • Support wedding, function and buffet setup and service

Requirements

  • Previous experience supervising a café, restaurant, hospitality or food-service shift
  • Confidence leading colleagues during busy service
  • Strong customer-service skills, with experience handling tills and cash
  • Understanding of food hygiene and allergen procedures
  • Ability to open, close and take responsibility for a shift
  • Calm, practical problem-solving and good communication
  • Reliable availability for regular weekends and occasional evenings
  • Right to work in the UK

Desirable: barista experience, Level 2/3 Food Safety, allergen-awareness training, first aid, personal licence or alcohol-service experience, wedding/events experience.

Join us as Deputy Supervisor at Swanspool Pavilion Café & Kitchen and help shape a brand-new independent café from day one — working directly with the owner, with a genuine voice in how the café develops.

Pay: £15.00 per hour

Benefits:

  • Discounted or free food
  • Employee discount
  • Free parking
  • On-site parking

Work Location: In person
