Role Overview

The Assistant Manager will support the day-to-day running of the branch, ensuring high operational standards, strong customer service, and effective team management. The role requires a hands-on leader who can support warehouse operations, cash & carry activity, customer engagement, stock control, and sales growth initiatives.

The successful candidate must be commercially aware, operationally strong, and capable of leading by example in a fast-paced wholesale environment.

Key ResponsibilitiesOperations & Branch Support

• Support the Branch Manager in the daily operation of the depot.
• Ensure the branch is fully operational, clean, organised, and customer-ready at all times.
• Supervise opening and closing procedures.
• Monitor branch standards, health & safety, and compliance procedures.
• Support stock replenishment, merchandising, and availability across all departments.

Team Management

• Assist with the supervision and motivation of branch colleagues.
• Support staff training, induction, and performance management.
• Ensure high levels of productivity and accountability across the team.
• Lead by example with a positive and professional attitude.

Customer Service & Sales

• Deliver excellent customer service standards at all times.
• Build strong relationships with customers and resolve issues effectively.
• Support customer growth initiatives, promotions, and sales campaigns.
• Assist in driving footfall, customer retention, and basket spend.

Stock & Warehouse Control

• Support stock management, rotation, waste reduction, and inventory accuracy.
• Work closely with warehouse and goods-in teams to maintain operational efficiency.
• Ensure stock availability on key lines and escalate supply issues promptly.

Financial & Administrative Duties

• Assist with cash handling and till management procedures.
• Support branch reporting and operational administration.
• Help monitor branch performance against sales and operational targets.

Skills & Experience Required

• Previous supervisory or management experience within wholesale, retail, foodservice, FMCG, or cash & carry environments.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced operational environment.
• Commercial awareness with a customer-focused mindset.
• Good organisational and problem-solving abilities.
• Experience managing teams and operational processes.
• Basic IT literacy including Microsoft Office systems.

Desirable

• Experience within foodservice wholesale or cash & carry operations.
• Forklift licence (preferred but not essential).
• Understanding of stock control and warehouse operations.
