Full job description

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Assistant Manager to help lead our restaurant operations at Aurelia, Aylesbury's premier dining destination. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a sharp eye for service standards, and a passion for delivering exceptional hospitality experiences. This role involves running the floor during service, supporting the day-to-day operation of the restaurant, developing the front-of-house team, and ensuring our standards are upheld at every turn. The Assistant Manager plays a vital role in maintaining Aurelia's reputation for excellence in service, atmosphere, and guest satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee front-of-house service from open to close, setting the standard for the team and ensuring every guest has an outstanding experience.
  • Manage daily operations of the restaurant, including staff scheduling, training, and performance management.
  • Build and manage rotas, control labour costs, and ensure the venue is properly staffed for every service.
  • Monitor stock levels, place orders, and manage inventory to control GP and minimise waste.
  • Oversee food safety, allergen, and licensing compliance, ensuring a safe and legal environment for staff and guests.
  • Implement and maintain standard operating procedures across the floor and bar.
  • Develop and motivate the team through hands-on coaching, training, and effective conflict resolution.
  • Ensure smooth communication between front-of-house, bar, and kitchen teams to deliver a seamless guest experience.
  • Step up to run the venue in the General Manager's absence.
  • Support our cocktail and drinks programme, maintaining high standards across the bar.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as an Assistant Manager or strong Supervisor within a quality restaurant or hospitality setting.
  • Demonstrated team management skills with the ability to lead diverse teams effectively through a busy service.
  • Solid understanding of restaurant operations including rotas, stock control, and GP.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety standards, allergens, and licensing.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and stay calm under pressure.
  • Knowledge of hospitality best practices, serving standards, and customer service excellence.
  • Good understanding of cocktails and drinks is highly desirable given our bar programme.
  • Leadership qualities combined with a proactive, problem-solving approach.
  • Relevant qualifications in hospitality management are preferred but not essential.

This position offers an exciting opportunity to lead a dedicated team within a vibrant, growing hospitality group committed to delivering outstanding service and being the best restaurant in Aylesbury.
