Afternoon Tea Host – Wroxall Abbey Hotel

At Wroxall Abbey Hotel, we are creating one of the Midlands' finest vintage afternoon tea experiences. This is more than serving food and drinks; it is about creating a memorable journey through British tradition, elegance and exceptional hospitality.

We are looking for passionate, experienced front of house professionals who genuinely love delivering outstanding guest experiences. Our Afternoon Tea Hosts will become experts in the history of afternoon tea, the heritage of Wroxall Abbey and the stories behind every element of the experience.

Every guest should leave feeling they have enjoyed something truly special.

What You'll Be Responsible For

  • Delivering impeccable, attentive and personalised service throughout every afternoon tea.
  • Welcoming guests warmly and creating a relaxed yet luxurious atmosphere.
  • Presenting each afternoon tea course with confidence and elegance.
  • Explaining every item on the menu, including ingredients, preparation and flavour profiles.
  • Sharing the fascinating history of the British afternoon tea tradition.
  • Telling the story of Wroxall Abbey and its rich heritage.
  • Advising guests on tea pairings and making recommendations.
  • Preparing and serving a wide range of premium loose-leaf teas to the highest standard.
  • Understanding dietary requirements and allergen information.
  • Maintaining exceptional presentation standards throughout the restaurant.
  • Anticipating guest needs before they ask.
  • Working seamlessly with the kitchen team to ensure perfect timing and presentation.
  • Creating memorable moments that encourage guests to return and recommend the experience.

The Person We Are Looking For

The successful candidate will have:

  • Previous experience delivering high-end afternoon tea service in a luxury hotel, country house, fine dining restaurant or similar environment.
  • Exceptional customer service skills with a genuine passion for hospitality.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Confidence speaking to guests and presenting food and beverages professionally.
  • Excellent knowledge of premium teas and traditional afternoon tea etiquette (or a willingness to become an expert through training).
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • A calm and organised approach during busy service periods.
  • A polished and professional appearance.
  • A warm, engaging personality with a natural ability to make guests feel welcome.

Essential Knowledge

Our Afternoon Tea Hosts will become experts in:

  • The origins of British afternoon tea and its evolution through history.
  • Anna, the Duchess of Bedford, and her role in creating the afternoon tea tradition.
  • Traditional afternoon tea etiquette.
  • Premium loose-leaf teas and their characteristics.
  • Tea brewing methods and correct serving techniques.
  • Pairing teas with sweet and savoury items.
  • The history and heritage of Wroxall Abbey.
  • The hotel's architecture and historical significance.
  • Local Warwickshire history and attractions.
  • Food ingredients and allergen awareness.
  • Wine and Champagne pairings where appropriate.

Training Programme

Every Afternoon Tea Host will receive comprehensive training covering:

  • The complete history of afternoon tea.
  • The story of Wroxall Abbey.
  • Tea knowledge and professional tea service.
  • Vintage service etiquette.
  • Fine dining service techniques.
  • Guest psychology and anticipating guest needs.
  • Luxury customer service.
  • Food and wine knowledge.
  • Menu presentation.
  • Upselling Champagne, cocktails and retail teas.
  • Handling VIP guests and special occasions.

What Success Looks Like

By the end of training, every Afternoon Tea Host should be able to:

  • Confidently tell the story of afternoon tea without prompts.
  • Explain every menu item in detail.
  • Recommend teas based on guest preferences.
  • Deliver flawless, elegant service.
  • Create memorable guest experiences through conversation and storytelling.
  • Consistently exceed guest expectations and contribute to making Wroxall Abbey one of the UK's most highly regarded afternoon tea destinations.

Pay: £12.71-£16.00 per hour
