Full job description

We’re urgently looking a confident and capable cook to join our busy, well-established café in Gildredge Park.

This is a great opportunity for experienced kitchen professionals who love cooking and baking but are ready to leave late-night restaurant shifts behind.

No late nights. No split shifts. Daytime hours.

We serve a fresh, high-quality daytime menu including brunch dishes, homemade focaccias, cakes, scones, traybakes and sweet treats.

The Role

  • Preparing and cooking our daytime brunch and lunch menu
  • Producing a consistently strong range of homemade cakes, bakes and café treats
  • Working confidently during busy service
  • Maintaining excellent preparation and organisation
  • Helping to develop new cakes, bakes and seasonal specials
  • Supporting the wider café team when needed
  • Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, hygiene and presentation

About You

You must have previous professional kitchen experience and be confident cooking from fresh ingredients—not simply reheating pre-prepared food.

Strong baking skills are essential for this role. You should be comfortable producing a range of cakes, traybakes, brownies, scones and similar café products to a consistently high standard.

You will also be:

  • Calm and capable during busy periods
  • Well organised, reliable and efficient
  • Proud of the food and bakes you produce
  • Positive, flexible and team-focused
  • Happy working across different areas of a busy café kitchen

This role is not suitable for applicants without previous kitchen and baking experience.

The Benefits

  • Daytime working hours
  • No late-night finishes
  • No split shifts
  • Full-time or part-time opportunities
  • A varied role combining cooking and baking
  • Friendly, established independent café
  • Immediate start available

To Apply

Please send a short note outlining:

  • Your previous cooking experience
  • The types of dishes you have prepared
  • Your baking experience
  • The cakes, scones, traybakes or other products you are confident making
  • Whether you are looking for full-time or part-time hours
  • Why this role appeals to you

Pay: From £14.00 per hour

Benefits:

  • Discounted or free food

Experience:

  • Kitchen: 1 year (required)

Work Location: In person
