Commis Chef – Sally Pussey’s Inn

We’re looking for a passionate and enthusiastic Commis Chef to join our kitchen team at Sally Pussey’s Inn.

This is a great opportunity for someone looking to develop their career in a busy, friendly pub and restaurant environment. Whether you already have some kitchen experience or are looking to take the next step in your culinary career, you’ll work alongside our experienced chefs while developing your skills and gaining valuable hands-on experience.

About the Role

As a Commis Chef, you’ll support the wider kitchen team with the preparation, cooking and presentation of dishes, helping us maintain consistently high standards throughout service.

You’ll be working in a fast-paced kitchen, assisting senior chefs with day-to-day food preparation while ensuring the kitchen remains clean, organised and compliant with all food safety and hygiene requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation, cooking and presentation of dishes.
  • Prepare ingredients and complete daily food preparation tasks as directed by senior chefs.
  • Ensure dishes are prepared consistently and to the required quality and presentation standards.
  • Support the kitchen team during busy lunch, dinner and weekend services.
  • Maintain excellent standards of cleanliness, organisation and food hygiene.
  • Assist with stock rotation, deliveries and correct food storage.
  • Follow all food safety, health and safety, and kitchen procedures.
  • Help minimise food waste and use ingredients efficiently.
  • Keep workstations, equipment and kitchen areas clean and organised.
  • Work closely with the wider kitchen and front-of-house teams to support smooth service.

What We’re Looking For

  • Previous experience working in a kitchen is desirable, although training can be provided.
  • A genuine interest in food and a willingness to learn.
  • A positive attitude and strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to remain organised and work well under pressure during busy services.
  • Good communication and time-management skills.
  • Reliability and attention to detail.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and bank holidays as required.
  • Food Hygiene Certificate is desirable, but training can be provided.
