Overview
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Second Chef to join our professional culinary team. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, extensive culinary expertise, and a passion for delivering exceptional food experiences. This role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to a vibrant hospitality environment, supporting the Head Chef in managing kitchen operations and ensuring the highest standards of food quality and safety. The position is fully paid and suitable for individuals with a background in food production, restaurant experience, and team management.

Duties

  • Assist the Head Chef in preparing, cooking, and presenting a variety of dishes in accordance with established recipes and standards.
  • Supervise kitchen staff during service periods, ensuring smooth operation and maintaining high levels of efficiency.
  • Oversee food production processes, ensuring consistency, quality, and presentation meet organisational standards.
  • Manage food safety protocols, including hygiene practices and proper storage of ingredients.
  • Support in training and mentoring junior kitchen staff to develop their skills and knowledge.
  • Ensure all kitchen equipment is maintained properly and report any faults or issues promptly.
  • Collaborate with front-of-house teams to coordinate serving times and optimise customer satisfaction.
  • Assist with inventory management, stock control, and ordering supplies as needed.

Skills

  • Proven supervising experience within a busy kitchen environment.
  • Extensive culinary experience with strong skills in food preparation and cooking techniques.
  • Demonstrated team management capabilities with leadership qualities that motivate staff.
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices in hygiene standards.
  • Previous restaurant or hospitality experience is highly desirable.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently under pressure.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively liaise with team members and management.
  • Passion for delivering exceptional service and maintaining high standards of quality in all aspects of food production.

Chef to prepare breakfast and lunch for residents of the care home. 2 x days p/week 7am - 3pm with ½ unpaid break. Flexible days but some weekend work will be required.

Pay: From £14.42 per hour
