Full job description

We’re looking for a friendly, organised and proactive full-time Front of House to join our team at Sorella.

This isn’t just a “receptionist” role. You’ll be at the heart of a large, very busy salon, looking after clients, supporting a team of more than 20 people and helping everything run smoothly behind the scenes.

Sorella is a fast-paced environment. There can be several clients arriving and leaving at once, phones ringing, messages coming in and team members needing help - so you’ll need to be comfortable juggling different priorities, thinking on your feet and staying calm when things get busy.

It can be a demanding role at times, but for someone who enjoys being busy, loves people and gets satisfaction from keeping everything organised, it’s also a really rewarding one.

This is a full-time position and applicants must be able to work Saturdays and our Tuesday late night, which finishes at 8.15pm.

If you love people, take pride in high standards and naturally notice the little details, this could be a great role for you.

The Role:

You’ll play a key part in creating the Sorella experience from the moment a client gets in touch, right through to when they leave - and come back again.

This includes:

— welcoming and looking after clients to a high standard
— managing appointments, calls, messages and emails
— checking clients in and out
— handling payments and end-of-day cashing up
— managing a busy reception area and keeping things running smoothly
— being a key holder and responsible for unlocking and locking up
— communicating with and supporting a large team throughout the day
— noticing problems and taking the initiative to deal with them

And because we’re a busy, team-focused salon, this role will also include:

— washing hair
— sweeping and keeping the salon clean and presentable
— helping with towels, washing up and general salon jobs
— helping wherever needed to support the team

This is definitely not a quiet, desk-based reception role.

You’ll be on your feet, moving around the salon and switching between different tasks throughout the day. We’re looking for someone who enjoys that kind of environment and is happy to get stuck in as part of the whole salon team.

Hours:

This is a full-time position.

Applicants must be able to work:

Saturdays
Tuesday evenings until 8.15pm

Some flexibility to cover holidays and other busy periods may also occasionally be required.

Please only apply if you are able to commit to these working hours on an ongoing basis.

What We’re Looking For:

We care far more about attitude than salon experience.

We’re looking for someone who:

— is warm, friendly and genuinely cares about people
— thrives in a busy, fast-paced environment
— can juggle several things at once without becoming flustered
— is organised and able to prioritise what needs doing
— communicates confidently in person, on the phone and through messages
— takes pride in high standards and doing things properly
— is proactive and notices what needs doing without always being asked
— is happy to get stuck in wherever needed
— is reliable, punctual and takes responsibility for their role
— understands that Front of House is a key part of keeping the whole salon running

Previous reception, hospitality, retail or customer service experience would be useful, particularly in a busy environment, but the right attitude is most important.

Our Values:

At Sorella, everything we do comes back to:

Professional — we take pride in how we show up, communicate and deliver
Consistent — every client gets the same high standard, every time
Care — we look after our clients, our team and the salon environment
Always Learning — we’re always improving, learning and growing
Accountable — we take ownership and do what we say we will

If that sounds like you, you’ll fit right in.

About Us:

Sorella is an award-winning, modern salon in Knaphill with a strong reputation for colour work, especially balayage.

We are a large, fully employed, team-based salon with more than 20 team members and a busy client base.

We have a strong focus on high standards, teamwork and creating a genuinely great experience for our clients.

We’re looking for someone who wants to become an important part of a busy, friendly and professional salon team.

Benefits:

— Company pension
— Bonus scheme
— Employee discount on products
— Free haircuts and colours
— Free on-site parking

If you enjoy being busy, love working with people and think you’d thrive at the centre of a fast-paced salon, we’d love to hear from you.

Pay: £12.71-£14.50 per hour

Benefits:

  • Company events
  • Company pension
  • Employee discount
  • Free parking
  • On-site parking

Application question(s):

  • Why are you interested in this role at Sorella specifically?
  • Please confirm your approximate travel time to Sorella in Knaphill (GU21 2DR), how you would normally travel to work, and whether you can reliably get to the salon for early opening shifts and home after an 8.15pm finish.
  • Please tell us about any previous experience you have in reception, customer service, hospitality, retail, salon, spa or another people-focused role. What did you enjoy most and least about working in that environment?
  • Sorella is a large, very busy salon and Front of House can be fast-paced and demanding. Tell us about a time you have worked in a busy environment where you had to juggle several things at once. What was happening and how did you manage it?
  • Imagine you are on reception: the phone is ringing, a client has arrived and needs checking in, another client is waiting to pay and a stylist is asking you a question. What would you do?
  • This role requires you to notice what needs doing without always being asked - whether that's helping a client, answering the phone, sweeping hair or supporting a stylist. Can you give us an example of a time you've used your own initiative at work?
  • This is not a desk-based reception role. You will be on your feet for much of the day and the role may include stepping in to wash hair, sweeping, cleaning, laundry, washing up and helping throughout the salon alongside reception duties. Are you happy and comfortable with this being a regular part of your role?
  • This is a full-time role and requires regular Saturday working and a Tuesday late shift until 8.15pm. Please confirm that you can commit to both of these on an ongoing basis.
  • You may occasionally be asked to work additional hours to cover team holidays or busy periods. Are you able to offer some flexibility when required?

Work authorisation:

  • United Kingdom (required)

Work Location: In person
