Full job description

Part-time, approximately 30 hours per week | Weekend working required
Reliable transport is required because of Auchen Castle's location and the weekend working pattern.

We’re looking for a Kitchen Assistant to join us at Auchen Castle, helping our chefs keep the kitchen clean, safe and organised and supporting smooth service from preparation through to close.

About This Role

Working under the direction of the Head Chef and kitchen team, you’ll wash pots, pans, utensils, crockery and equipment; keep preparation, storage and staff areas clean; and follow daily and scheduled cleaning plans.

You’ll also support basic food preparation by washing, peeling and preparing ingredients; receive, check and store deliveries; replenish kitchen supplies; and keep chefs supplied with clean utensils, equipment and ingredients before, during and after service.

This is a practical, physically active role in a busy hospitality kitchen. You’ll be on your feet for extended periods, lift and carry within safe limits, use cleaning products and work in hot or wet areas. You must follow food hygiene, allergen, cross-contamination, manual handling and other safety procedures, and report hazards, accidents or concerns promptly.

Discover Life at Auchen Castle

Hidden in the Moffat hills, in the heart of Robert Burns country, Auchen Castle is a restored Scottish fairytale castle set within 34 acres of private grounds. With 26 individually styled en-suite bedrooms, it welcomes wedding parties, private celebrations and special stays.

Service can be fast-paced and priorities may change with occupancy and events. You’ll join a close-knit team where reliability, clear communication and pride in high standards help chefs work efficiently and give every guest a consistent experience.

What We’re Looking For

Essential

· Reliable and punctual, with a positive, respectful and helpful approach.

· Willing to learn; no previous kitchen experience is required.

· Able to follow spoken and written instructions accurately and complete practical tasks consistently.

· Good attention to detail and pride in cleanliness, hygiene and safe food handling.

· Able to organise routine tasks and work at pace during busy periods.

· Comfortable working independently and as part of a team, with clear and respectful communication.

· Able to work flexibly across the rota, including mornings, evenings, weekends and bank holidays, with reliable transport to and from Auchen Castle due to its location and working pattern.

Desirable

· Previous experience in a commercial kitchen, hotel, restaurant, catering or cleaning environment; a basic food hygiene qualification; or experience using commercial dishwashing equipment and cleaning products.

Safeguarding

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and adults at risk. Depending on the duties of the role, the successful candidate may be required to undertake an appropriate Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme check as part of our safer recruitment process.

Ready To Apply?

We welcome applications from people who share our commitment to warm hospitality, high standards and respectful teamwork.
