Full job description

The Suya Factory is a lively Afro-fusion bar & grill at Chatham Quays, Chatham, with a 5-star food hygiene rating, live-charcoal suya and grills, cocktails, and live music and DJs at weekends. We're looking for experienced Waiting Staff / Front of House to join our team on evening and weekend shifts.

About the role

You'll be the face of the restaurant during our busiest services – welcoming and hosting guests, looking after tables on the floor and making sure every guest has a great experience from arrival to departure.

Key responsibilities

  • Welcome and host guests, manage the door and seat bookings and walk-ins
  • Take orders and serve food and drinks at the table quickly and accurately
  • Know the menu well, explain dishes and allergens, and upsell drinks, sides and desserts
  • Check back on tables throughout the meal and handle any issues professionally
  • Take card payments at the table
  • Look after large groups, birthdays and celebrations
  • Keep the floor, tables and toilets clean, stocked and presentable
  • Help with opening and closing duties
  • Follow food safety, allergen and licensing rules, including Challenge 25

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years' experience as a waiter/waitress in a restaurant (essential)
  • Proven experience hosting guests and working the floor during busy services
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Calm under pressure, organised and a strong team player
  • Reliable and punctual, with good availability for evenings and weekends
  • Must be 18 or over (the role involves serving alcohol)
  • Must live locally – Chatham, Gillingham, Rochester, Strood, Gravesend, Sittingbourne or Maidstone
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Food Hygiene Level 2 desirable (we can support you to get it)
