The Greyhound is an award-winning fine dining restaurant recognised for precision, discipline, and an uncompromising commitment to excellence. Under the leadership of Head Chef George Sweeney, we continue to set the standard for modern British cuisine — combining strong classical foundations with refined technique and the finest locally sourced ingredients.

We are now seeking a motivated and ambitious Commis Chef to join our professional kitchen brigade.

This is an exceptional opportunity to begin or further develop your career within one of England’s most respected kitchens, working in an environment where standards are high, learning is constant, and progression is earned.

The Role

As Commis Chef, you will work closely with the Chef de Partie and senior team to develop your technical skills and understanding of a fine dining kitchen.

You will be expected to:

  • Assist in the preparation and presentation of dishes to a high standard
  • Learn and develop strong classical cooking techniques
  • Maintain cleanliness and food safety standards at all times
  • Support senior chefs during service
  • Demonstrate organisation, focus, and a willingness to improve
  • Respect kitchen discipline and team structure

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary (based on experience)
  • Structured training and clear progression pathways
  • Two set days off each week
  • Christmas Day off
  • 28 days annual holiday
  • Staff meals and uniform provided
  • Pension scheme
  • A disciplined, ambitious and supportive working environment

What We’re Looking For

  • A genuine passion for cooking and hospitality
  • A strong work ethic and positive attitude
  • Willingness to learn and take constructive feedback
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Calmness and professionalism under pressure

At The Greyhound, excellence is built on discipline, consistency, and respect for the craft. We invest in young chefs who are serious about developing their skills and building a long-term career in hospitality.

If you are ambitious, hardworking, and ready to learn in an award-winning kitchen, we would love to hear from you.
