Commis Chef / Junior Chef

The Laughing Pear – Rayleigh, Essex

We are looking for an enthusiastic Commis Chef / Junior Chef to join our kitchen team at The Laughing Pear. We are an award winning busy independent fresh food café in Rayleigh.

This is a great opportunity for someone at the beginning of their chef career who wants to develop their skills and gain experience working in a busy professional kitchen.

The role

Working alongside our experienced chefs you will be involved in:

  • Preparing fresh ingredients ready for service
  • Cooking and plating dishes from our menu
  • Supporting the chefs during busy breakfast and lunch services
  • Maintaining high standards of food presentation and consistency
  • Following food hygiene, allergen and kitchen safety procedures
  • Helping with deliveries, stock rotation and food storage
  • Keeping your section and the wider kitchen clean and organised
  • Being part of a team that takes pride in the food we serve

About you

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Passionate about food and interested in developing a career as a chef
  • Reliable, punctual and willing to work hard
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced kitchen
  • Able to listen, learn and follow instructions
  • A good team player with a positive attitude
  • Proud of maintaining a clean and organised kitchen

Previous kitchen experience would be an advantage, but we're also happy to consider someone with limited experience who has the right attitude and a genuine desire to learn.

Typical working hours are during the daytime with the café open from 9am–3pm.

Pay: £10.85-£12.71 per hour
