Job Summary

We are a busy family-run café based in Willaston, Cheshire, looking for an experienced manager to lead our close-knit, supportive team during a maternity cover period.

We want someone who leads by example, has a proven background in hospitality management and can create a positive environment that both customers and staff love.

This role is perfect for a passionate hospitality professional eager to oversee daily operations, ensure exceptional customer experiences, and maintain high standards of quality. As Café Manager, you will be the driving force behind creating a welcoming atmosphere, managing staff, and ensuring smooth service from kitchen to table.

The role will be a temporary contract, with the potenrial to become permanent.

Key Responsibilites

Staff Management

  • Lead and supervise the team, fostering a positive and motivated work environment; leading by example with a hands-on attitude
  • Delivering outstanding customer service and creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere
  • Manage staff recruitment; including reviewing applications, interviewing candidates, and organising trial shifts.
  • Ensure all shifts are adequately covered, including personally covering shifts where necessary.
  • Train and develop new and existing team members through on-the-job coaching and dedicated training sessions.
  • Resolve staff concerns and operational issues, escalating to the owner where appropriate.
  • Monitor employee performance and provide regular coaching and constructive feedback.
  • Hold regular team meetings and maintain accurate meeting minutes.

Administritive

  • Manage the daily operations of the business; organising staff rotas, ordering stock, managing open/close procedures, cash handling
  • Monitor sales performance and implement strategies to enhance revenue and operational efficiency
  • Keep on top of costings; doing regular reviews and cost comparisons, ensuring the POS system is up to date

Health, Hygiene & Standards

  • Maintain the café to an exceptional standard of cleanliness and presentation.
  • Ensure kitchen and food preparation areas comply with Environmental Health regulations and food hygiene standards.
  • Keep all storage areas clean, organised, and compliant with health and safety standards.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in restaurant or café management with supervising responsibilities
  • Strong leadership and people management skills with the ability to lead by example
  • Confidence managing busy service periods and solving problems under pressure.
  • Knowledge of food safety standards and food production processes
  • Barista experience is a plus, demonstrating proficiency in beverage preparation
