Job Summary
The Gibraltar Rock in Tynemouth is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Kitchen Porter/Kitchen Assistant to join our culinary team. The Gib is an iconic venue in the North East, serving fresh food from local suppliers.

Main duties and responsibilities include:

  • Cleaning and sterilising countertops, kitchen walls, stoves, ovens, grills and sinks
  • Assisting the Kitchen Brigade with food preparation and service
  • Cleaning the entire kitchen once it is closed to ensure it is ready for the next day
  • Maintaining the food storage areas like freezers and refrigerators
  • Receiving deliveries and organising them in the kitchen
  • Washing dirty dishes like cutlery, pots, cutting boards and pans or loading dishes into the dishwasher
  • Removing kitchen waste from waste containers and disposing of them properly
  • Cleaning and maintaining cooking equipment like cookers, pots and food mixers
  • Supporting the Chef in basic food preparation like cutting ingredients, peeling and washing food items
  • Providing assistance to the Kitchen Brigade and other Kitchen staff, as needed

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a restaurant or kitchen environment is preferred but not essential; a willingness to learn is key.
  • Strong interest in food preparation and culinary arts, with a desire to develop skills further.
  • Excellent teamwork abilities, demonstrating leadership qualities when working alongside others.
  • Good understanding of food safety standards and hygiene practices within a kitchen setting.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with team members.
