Full job description

Overview

The Blue Anchor is a popular pub and restaurant in the heart of Brixham, known for quality food, a welcoming atmosphere and a loyal customer base. We are seeking a talented and passionate Cook/Kitchen Team member to join our current kitchen team at an exciting time when we are developing our autumn menu.

Our menu focuses of freshly prepared, homecooked pub classics, complimented by some seasonal specials using locally sourced ingredients wherever possible (take a look online, our reviews speak for themselves!)

The ideal candidate will have high standards and a strong sense of pride in the work they produce with background in food preparation and cooking. Experience in a fast-paced kitchen environment would be a bonus.

As a Cook/Kitchen Team member, you will be responsible for putting together delicious meals that meet our high standards of quality and presentation while ensuring food safety and hygiene practices are adhered to.

Duties

  • Prepare and cook a variety of dishes according to the menu and customer preferences.
  • Ensure all food is prepared in accordance with health and safety regulations.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen area, including equipment and utensils.
  • Collaborate with management to plan menus, taking into account seasonal ingredients and customer feedback.
  • Monitor inventory levels of ingredients and supplies, placing orders as necessary.
  • Serve meals in an appealing manner, ensuring presentation meets restaurant standards.

What we can do for you

  • Split shifts avoided
  • Opportunity to contribute to menu creation
  • Willing to work with someone who has good skills but lack of formal chef training as full training given.
  • Two days off a week
  • Rotating weekends off
  • Supportive team environment

Skills

  • Experience in food preparation.
  • Strong culinary skills with a passion for creating high-quality meals.
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices.
  • Previous restaurant experience is highly desirable (not necessarily as a cook).
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Excellent teamwork skills with the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues.
  • We particularly value team members who demonstrate professionalism, reliability and a strong work ethic.
  • A creative approach to meal preparation, with an understanding of current culinary trends. If you are enthusiastic about cooking and eager to contribute to a dynamic team, we encourage you to apply for this exciting opportunity!

If you're passionate about great food, enjoy working in a fast-paced kitchen and want to help shape an exciting new seasonal menu, we'd love to hear from you.
