Assistant Manager

Full-time, 42-hour contract

The Shires is a busy, food-led pub and restaurant in the heart of Peatling Parva, near Lutterworth. We are proud to offer proper hospitality: genuinely warm welcomes, knowledgeable service, great drinks served with care, and delicious fresh food that guests want to return for. From relaxed lunches and family celebrations to our locally famous Sunday carvery service, we want every guest to leave feeling that they have been properly looked after.

Due to the continued growth of The Shires, we are expanding our management structure and recruiting a second Assistant Manager to strengthen our existing leadership team. This is a newly created position rather than a replacement role. You will join an established General Manager and Assistant Manager, helping us provide greater leadership across the business, develop our team and maintain consistently high standards as The Shires continues to grow.

We are looking for an exceptional hospitality manager who can make a real contribution to the next stage of the pub’s development. This is not a position for someone who simply wants to hold the keys, cover breaks and oversee a shift. We are looking for a visible, hands-on leader who is guest obsessed, excited by great food and capable of bringing out the best in a busy hospitality team.

The role

Working alongside the General Manager and our existing Assistant Manager, you will help lead the day-to-day operation of The Shires and ensure consistently high standards are delivered across every service. The expanded management structure will allow each manager to spend more time leading from the floor, coaching the team, engaging with guests and driving the business forward. You will:

• Lead busy shifts confidently from the front
• Create a warm, personal and memorable experience for every guest
• Build relationships with regular guests and make first-time visitors want to return
• Coach, motivate and develop the front-of-house team
• Make sure the team understand our menus and can speak confidently about our food and drinks
• Work closely with the kitchen team to deliver smooth service, excellent presentation and well-managed food waits
• Maintain outstanding standards of cleanliness, presentation, safety and compliance
• Take responsibility for opening, closing, cash management and business security
• Support with rotas, labour management, stock control, team performance and other commercial responsibilities
• Help generate ideas that build sales, encourage repeat visits and strengthen The Shires’ place within the local community
• Take full responsibility for the pub when the General Manager is absent
• Work collaboratively with the wider management team, sharing responsibility and maintaining clear communication across every shift

Who we are looking for

You will already have meaningful experience leading people within a busy pub, restaurant or food-led hospitality business.More importantly, you will be someone who:

• Is genuinely guest obsessed and notices the details others miss
• Loves food and takes a real interest in ingredients, presentation and menu knowledge
• Understands that great hospitality is personal, not scripted
• Leads from the floor rather than managing from the sidelines
• Remains calm, organised and decisive during demanding services
• Sets high standards and is comfortable holding others accountable
• Enjoys coaching people and helping them become better at what they do
• Communicates confidently with guests, team members and kitchen colleagues
• Takes pride in the commercial performance of the business as well as its service
• Works well as part of a close management team and understands the importance of consistency
• Has the maturity and confidence to lead independently when required
• Is happy working evenings, weekends and bank holidays as part of a fully flexible management rota

You may already be an experienced Assistant Manager, or you may be an outstanding Supervisor or Duty Manager who is genuinely ready to take the next step. Either way, you will need to show that you can lead people, run a demanding service and make every guest feel important.

What success looks like

A successful Assistant Manager at The Shires will:

• Know what is happening throughout the pub without losing sight of the guests in front of them
• Work closely and positively with the General Manager and existing Assistant Manager
• Build a confident, knowledgeable and motivated team
• Develop relationships with regular guests and remember the small details that matter to them
• Take ownership when something goes wrong
• Be as interested in the quality of a Sunday roast as they are in the accuracy of the cash-up
• Look for opportunities to improve the guest experience and grow the business
• Leave every shift, service area and team member in a better position than they found them

Pay: £31,000.00-£32,000.00 per year
