Monkton Elm Garden Centre - Elm Tree Restaurant

Join our dynamic culinary team as a Commis Chef and ignite your passion for food and hospitality! In this energetic role, you will be an essential part of the kitchen brigade, supporting the preparation and presentation of high-quality dishes. This is an exciting opportunity to develop your culinary skills, gain valuable kitchen experience, and work alongside seasoned professionals in a vibrant, fast-paced environment. Whether you're just starting out or looking to elevate your culinary career, this position offers a platform to grow, lead, and excel in the art of food service.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in food preparation and cooking under the supervision of senior chefs to ensure timely delivery of dishes.
  • Support food safety and hygiene standards by maintaining cleanliness and organization in the kitchen area.
  • Contribute to food production processes, including chopping, marinating, garnishing, and portioning ingredients.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth kitchen operations and uphold high standards of quality.
  • Help supervise junior staff and trainees, fostering a positive team environment while ensuring tasks are completed efficiently.
  • Participate in inventory management by checking stock levels and assisting with stock rotation to minimize waste.
  • Serve dishes with professionalism and enthusiasm, ensuring guest satisfaction at all times.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a kitchen or hospitality setting is preferred but not essential; a strong willingness to learn is key!
  • Demonstrated knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques, and kitchen safety protocols.
  • Experience supervising or managing team members is a plus, highlighting leadership potential.
  • Passion for culinary arts with an understanding of food production processes.
  • Knowledge of food safety standards and hygiene practices required for maintaining a clean working environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team in a fast-paced setting.
  • A proactive attitude towards learning new skills and taking on responsibilities.
