About us

Tottington Manor is a Hotel & Events Venue just north of Brighton in the South Downs, we are just 10 minutes from the Shoreham flyover at the A27, 10 minutes from the A23 junction at Pyecombe and 20 minutes from Horsham.

We are situated in a truly beautiful location and our guests join us because of our great team, hospitality, food and our location.

Tottington Manor is looking for Full time or Part time weekend Night Porter with additional daytime duties during the week to join our successful team . We pride ourselves on Great Hospitality and our guests reflect that in the tips they leave after having a great meal with us.

As a result our team regularly receive between £2 and £3 per hour in additional tips and service charge on top of the advertised wage.

Position Summary:
We are looking for a Weekend Night Porter to work an 11 hr shift on Saturday and Sunday Evenings and Nights, with the option of making up to a full time job with daytime hours in gardening/maintenance, Front of House, Kitchen Portering or Housekeeping.

The Night Porter starts at 10pm and leads the bar operation for our Weddings and Events and is responsible for directing the team in our end of night procedures to ensure a safe, clean and efficient close down.

From the end of the event the Night Porter will run the residents bar as required and move onto cleaning and setup tasks to ensure the venue is ready to start the next day.

From time to time there will be minor maintenance tasks and preparation tasks to complete through the night, but in the main you are there to look after the resident guests, ensuring their safety and security.

In the mornings you will assist with breakfast and check out, working with the day team until the shift finishes at 9am.

This can be a part time position, but it can also be a full time position with additional shifts within our front of house team, kitchen porters or housekeeping depending on experience. There will also be a requirement to provide holiday cover for our other Night Porters.

Location requirements:

We are in a truly beautiful location, but there is no suitable public transport so you either need your own car or motorbike or very helpful parents.

Requirements:

  • Working Full time for 38hrs per week, with a typical Weekend Night shift 9pm - 9am and a typical day shift 11am - 5pm or 5pm to 10:30pm
  • Must be able to work nights and be self motivated to work alone and complete tasks
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment to support events
  • Must be able to work as part of a team as required
  • Must have knowledge and experience of working nights and ideally have worked in a hospitality environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Taking food and drink orders
  • Cleaning and preparation tasks overnight
  • Preparing drinks to a high standard
  • Checking guests in and out of the hotel
  • Cleaning, tidying and restocking the venue ready for a fresh start each day

Pay:

  • The hourly rate of pay is £12.90 - £13.20
  • In addition we operate a tronc scheme that shares service charge between the whole team based on the hours that they work, this typically works out at £2 - £3 per hour in addition to the basic rate of pay
