Full job description
Business Analyst
Salary: £53,761
Location: Milton Keynes
This role is available full-time for 37 hours per week or part-time with a minimum coverage of 30 hours. This role is predominantly based in the office, with the opportunity to work from home up to twice a month. Flexible working patterns and compressed working requests are welcome.
Do you love solving complex problems and turning them into smart, streamlined solutions? Are you passionate about making technology work better, faster, and more intuitively?
You’ll be a forward-thinking, solution-oriented professional who thrives at the intersection of engineering, technology, and organisational change. In this role, you’ll play a key part in contextualising, analysing, and designing change across HMGCC and spanning a wide range of business domains and stakeholders.
Every day will bring new challenges and exciting opportunities to make a real impact. You'll transition seamlessly between shaping strategic change and supporting the creation and implementation of the products, services and technology. Whether it's untangling system inefficiencies, aligning strategic capabilities with business needs, or helping shape cutting-edge tech, your work will directly influence how we design, build, and deliver products.
You'll work closely with engineers, enterprise architects, product teams and senior leaders, bringing together different perspectives to solve complex challenges that span technology, operations and business strategy.
You’ll be in a diverse, fast-paced, collaborative environment where analytical thinking, creative problem-solving, and a passion for innovation are valued.
More about you
To apply for this role, you will already have:
- Experience working in a role that required analytical thinking, problem solving and collaboration with stakeholders.
- Analytical skills, including requirements validation, root cause analysis, use case development, and process modelling.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
It would be beneficial if you also have one of the following (although these are not essential):
- Experience in analysing and guiding strategic business change, translating organisational strategy into actionable insights with value realisation.
- Experience contributing to projects, business improvement initiatives or organisational change activities.
- An understanding of engineering industry standards and best practices.
You will be someone who:
- Has a keen desire to learn continuously and grow both your technical and interpersonal skills.
- Collaborates naturally with stakeholders and cross-functional teams, valuing shared knowledge and joint success, helping teams to move forward with confidence.
- Is committed to excellence, taking ownership to see projects through to a high standard.
- Is curious and enjoys creative problem-solving, understands complex problems, and shapes innovative, practical solutions.
- Can prioritise and manage your workload effectively, adapting to changing needs with flexibility and focus.
- Works closely with stakeholders to understand their goals, build relationships, clarify expectations, and ensure successful outcomes.
As part of the Business Analyst team, you’ll apply your diverse skill set to help bridge the gap between complex technical challenges and real-world solutions. In this role, you will:
- Collaborate with technical roles and stakeholders to gather, analyse, and refine requirements for a variety of technically orientated projects.
- Translate strategic concepts into clear, accessible documentation and insights that make sense to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Design and optimise business processes that enhance efficiency, reduce complexity, and support long-term growth.
- Take part in agile ceremonies, ensuring alignment between evolving business needs and technical capabilities throughout the development lifecycle.
- Produce insightful reports and visualisations that empower data-driven decisions across stakeholders and business teams.
Now that we’ve explained a bit about what you will be doing, here’s what we can offer you:
- A positive, collaborative and inclusive work environment.
- 25 days annual leave, rising to 30 after 5 years’ service.
- 8 Bank Holiday days off in addition to your annual leave.
- 2 ½ additional days leave (set dates through the year).
- Pension. Our Pension scheme is Alpha. It’s competitive.
- Opportunities for development.
- Flexible or compressed hours to support you to balance your life with your work.
- Paid overtime or time off in lieu.
- Paid parental and adoption leave and Neonatal policy.
- Affinity groups – whether you are a person with a disability, part of the LGBTQIA+ community and/or from an ethnic minority background, we provide an inclusive environment, support and a variety of networks for everyone.
- Training. This can be anything from a ½ day internal course to a distant learning degree. If it’s relevant to your career, we will aim to support you.
- Opportunities for mentoring and coaching.
- Free secure parking and allocated parking for car shares.
- Free onsite gym, open 24 hours a day.
- Bike to work scheme.
- Multi-faith Prayer room. This is a quiet contemplation room for staff to use for prayer or reflection.
- 3 days paid leave a year to support a registered charity of your choice.
- Sports & Social Society. Whether its classic cars or baking, golf or crafting, we have a society for you. We offer regular subsidised theatre tickets and on-site activities.
- On site café and restaurant.
- On site nursery (subject to availability).
- New Joiner Loan*.
