Cook | Market Harborough Care Home

Location: Market Harborough, Leicestershire
Hours: 9am to 5pm, 3 days per week to start, with the opportunity to increase to 5 days
Pay: £14 to £15 per hour (depending on experience)

About the role

We’re working with a well-established care home in Market Harborough that is looking for a reliable, caring kitchen professional to join its team. Good food is a big part of daily life for residents, and this role plays a real part in their health, comfort and enjoyment.

You’ll be preparing and cooking nutritious meals tailored to each resident’s needs, including dietary requirements and modified-texture diets such as pureed, blended and fortified meals.

Who we’re looking for

Experienced cooks: if you’ve cooked in a care home or hospital setting, you’ll be considered for the cook position straight away.

Kitchen porters or restaurant cooks: if your background is in restaurants or hospitality, you can start as a kitchen porter and be supported to step up into the cook role as you gain experience.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook meals in line with residents’ dietary, cultural and nutritional needs
  • Prepare modified-texture meals (pureed, blended or smoothie-style) safely and to a high standard
  • Follow care plans, allergen guidance and special dietary instructions accurately
  • Maintain high standards of kitchen cleanliness, food safety and hygiene
  • Complete food safety records, temperature checks and cleaning schedules
  • Work as part of the wider care team to make mealtimes a positive experience for residents
  • Weekend availability needed

Requirements

  • Level 3 Food Safety and Hygiene certificate
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service, or willingness to obtain one (we can support with this)
  • Previous experience in a care home or hospital kitchen is preferred but not essential for the kitchen porter route
  • Knowledge of special diets and texture-modified food (IDDSI) is an advantage
  • Reliable, kind and well organised, with a genuine interest in caring for others
  • Right to work in the UK
