Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Kitchen Assistant to support the catering team at a care home. This role involves assisting with meal preparation and food service, ensuring high standards of food safety and hygiene. The position is part-time, offering 17 hours per week with overtime opportunities available. The ideal candidate will have a passion for cooking and experience in a catering or restaurant environment, contributing to the well-being and comfort of our residents through quality food service.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation and serving of meals in accordance with dietary requirements and menus
  • Support the kitchen team with food preparation tasks, including chopping, assembling, and portioning ingredients
  • Ensure all food safety and hygiene standards are maintained at all times
  • Help with cleaning kitchen equipment, utensils, and work areas to uphold cleanliness standards
  • Serve meals to residents in a courteous and professional manner
  • Assist with stock control, including receiving deliveries and storing supplies appropriately
  • Support the team during busy periods, ensuring smooth meal service operations
  • Follow health and safety procedures diligently to create a safe working environment

Requirements

  • Previous experience in catering, cooking, or restaurant environments is desirable
  • Knowledge of food preparation techniques and culinary practices
  • Understanding of food safety regulations and hygiene standards
  • Ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team
