Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Nursery Cook to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing nutritious meals for children in a safe and hygienic environment. This role requires a passion for food preparation, excellent culinary skills, and a commitment to food safety standards. The Nursery Cook will play a vital part in ensuring that our young children receive healthy, balanced meals that meet their dietary needs and preferences. Duties

  • Prepare and cook meals suitable for young children, ensuring nutritional balance and variety
  • Follow established recipes and meal plans to meet dietary requirements and preferences
  • Maintain high standards of food safety and hygiene throughout all stages of meal preparation
  • Organise the kitchen area, ensuring cleanliness, proper storage of ingredients, and compliance with health regulations
  • Assist in planning menus that incorporate fresh, seasonal ingredients
  • Monitor stock levels and place orders for ingredients as needed to ensure continuous meal service
  • Serve meals to children in a friendly and caring manner, promoting positive dining experiences
  • Collaborate with nursery staff to accommodate special dietary needs or allergies
  • Ensure all kitchen equipment is maintained in good working order and report any faults promptly

Experience

  • Proven experience in food preparation and cooking, ideally within a nursery, childcare setting, or similar environment
  • Knowledge of food safety standards and regulations applicable to food handling for children
  • Previous experience working in a kitchen or restaurant environment is advantageous
  • Familiarity with meal preparation for young children, including understanding their nutritional requirements
  • Experience with serving food in a professional setting is desirable
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining attention to detail and hygiene standards
