We are looking for someone exceptionally bright, hands-on and creatively curious, with the technical ability and imagination to help develop beautiful, commercially successful paper products.

This role may particularly suit a talented graduate or emerging designer with an outstanding portfolio and a strong interest in paper mechanics.

The Role

You will work within our design team to develop innovative paper-engineered products, from initial concept and physical mock-up through to finished artwork ready for print and production.

While the role is primarily focused on paper engineering, you will also receive training in Santoro’s wider design processes, giving you the skills to assist across a variety of projects including stationery, gifts, accessories, packaging, artworking, product mock-ups, photography, retouching and marketing visuals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Creating and developing paper-engineered designs, pop-ups, mechanisms and 3D paper structures
  • Producing physical prototypes, mock-ups and test models
  • Refining designs for function, strength, visual impact and commercial production
  • Designing products from concept through to print-ready artwork
  • Creating packaging concepts and final packaging artwork
  • Assisting with stationery, gift and accessory product development
  • Supporting the studio with artworking, mock-ups, photography, retouching and marketing visuals
  • Working across multiple brand style guides and design briefs
  • Learning Santoro’s production requirements, quality standards and artwork processes
  • Solving technical paper construction and product design challenges

Within the first 6 months, you will undergo a training probationary period to allow you to learn the fundamental skills necessary to complete high quality designs and prepare artworks ready for print.

The right candidate will:

- Have achieved top academic grades
- Be exceptionally talented in paper engineering, model-making or 3D paper construction
- Be highly creative, practical and technically minded
- Be naturally precise and able to solve complex design challenges
- Be passionate about paper, print, product design and physical making
- Be comfortable working as part of a small, fast-moving creative team
- Be keen to learn specialist commercial skills and develop within the role
- Have a good level of proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign
- Have the ability to learn quickly, think creatively and solve problems logically
