SDL are hiring!

SDL is looking for a motivated, well-organised and enthusiastic maintenance operative to come and join our Operations Team. SDL is a progressive open company with a strong emphasis on client and employee relationships.

The role involves conducting general and planned maintenance maximising opportunities to make cost savings and to improve and maintain the working environments for our internal customers. This is a fast-paced and exciting role where every day is different and new challenges are met with determination and creativity.

Ability to travel: To our Branches in the Northern region along the M1 corridor in: Barnsley, Castleford, Leeds, Ossett and York. In this role you'd be required to travel between the branches in a company van to perform the job. You will be provided with tools and an SDL van for the job, so you need to have a full, clean driving licence.

The hours of work will be 40 hours over 4 days per week according to a monthly rota. The rota is subject to change by the Management Team depending on business need.. Additional hours may be required by the business as required.

What will the role be:

  • Regional responsibility for planned and emergency maintenance:
  • Repairing and maintaining structures e.g., fixing roofs, repairing or rebuilding walls and maintaining guttering.
  • Painting and decorating e.g., painting walls and hanging doors.
  • Plumbing and electrical work e.g., plumbing and minor electrical tasks.
  • Fitting and assembling e.g., installing kitchens and bathrooms, tiling walls and floors, and assembling furniture.
  • Routine inspections and safety checks e.g., conducting checks on security and fire appliances to ensure they are functioning correctly.
  • General maintenance e.g., mowing lawns and cleaning.
  • Manage subcontractors' onsite inductions and oversee their tasks in accordance to risk assessments and method statements.
  • Ensure the Operations Board is updated.
  • Communicate progress to stakeholders and obtain job sign off from the Health & Safety representative, Operations Manager and End User.
  • This list is not exhaustive, and the candidate will be required to carry out any other reasonable ad hoc duties which may be required by management from time to time,
  • Provide daily reports to the Regional Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Support the other regions as instructed by the Regional Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Escalate issues in a timely manner to relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensure tasks performed comply in full to company and regulatory health, safety and environmental policies and laws.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Full, clean Driving License
  • Experience in one or more building trades including plumbing, carpentry, painting/decorating, roofing, or general building maintenance. (Preferred but not essential)
  • The ability to work on your own initiative.
  • Well-organised, self-motivated, efficient, and capable of managing their workload.
  • The ability to work cleanly & efficiently, with minimum disruptions to the branch.
  • Communicate effectively.
  • Awareness of all current legislation pertaining to fire, health, and safety regarding the workplace.
  • At least 3 years recent and relevant experience in a similar role. (Preferred but not essential)
  • The role will involve lone working, so you will need to be able to work on your own initiative and understand your responsibility for health and safety.
  • IPAF 3a/3b is desirable for use of Company MEWP’s. (Preferred but not essential)
