Lead Roofer – Garage Roof Replacements

£20 per hour · Full-time, permanent · Company van after successful induction

Lead garage roof replacements with JS Removals. We’re looking for an experienced, hands-on roofer who can install steel-sheet roofs, lead a small crew and train others. You’ll take responsibility for each job from preparation to customer handover, working alongside the team.

What you’ll do

• Install steel-sheet roofs on flat and pitched garages, including flashings, fixings and weatherproof finishing details.
• Check measurements, access, roof condition and the agreed specification. Raise structural concerns or scope changes with the office.
• Plan the work, lead the crew and teach practical roofing skills, checking quality throughout.
• Prepare material lists and coordinate orders with the office. Maintain agreed stock levels of fixings, sealants, consumables and spares.
• Check tools, equipment and materials are loaded before departure, reducing avoidable supplier trips and wasted time.
• Keep customers and the office informed, record completion photos and hours, and follow safe working-at-height and waste-handling procedures.

What you’ll bring

• Proven steel or corrugated-sheet roofing experience and a record of successfully leading roofing jobs and people.
• Confidence planning work, solving practical problems and maintaining a high standard of workmanship.
• The ability to train others and communicate clearly with the crew, office and customers.
• A full driving licence and the ability to reach our Loughborough base for early starts. Experience with guttering, fascias and UPVC trims is useful.

Asbestos roof removal – training supplied

You must be willing to help remove asbestos-cement garage roofs before fitting replacements. JS Removals will supply the appropriate asbestos training. This work is only undertaken after suitable training, competence assessment and authorisation, following the company’s risk assessments and plan of work. Awareness training alone is not sufficient for work that disturbs asbestos.

Hours, company van and paid travel

Typically around 50 hours per week, including travel, with early starts and nationwide work. Actual hours vary with the jobs and travel involved.

During your first week, you’ll meet an existing team member and travel together in their van. If the first week or two goes well, you’ll be allocated your own company van. You can then travel directly from home to jobs, picking up other team members on the way when needed.

Once your company van is allocated, you’ll be paid at £20 per hour from the time you leave home for work until you return home at the end of the working day, including travel.

The initial meeting point and travel arrangements will be confirmed before you start. Overnight stays are occasional rather than routine and will be discussed in advance.
