Trainee Roofing Manager

Pay: £30,000.00–£32,000.00 per year

Job Description:

Summary of Role:

• Work alongside our experienced Roofing Manager to deliver roofing works safely, on time, to budget and to specification
• Gain hands-on knowledge across pitched and flat roofing, including tiling, slating, felt, single ply, GRP, lead work and associated works such as fascias, soffits and rainwater goods
• Help supervise roofing operatives and subcontractors, with a strong focus on working-at-height safety
• Make sure works meet health, safety, quality and environmental standards and manufacturer specifications
• Help with roof surveys, scoping of works, progress tracking and reporting
• Learn the commercial side of roofing, including measuring, quantities, variations and valuations
• Work towards full roofing management responsibility through structured training and on-the-job learning

Key Tasks:

• Help the Roofing Manager with day-to-day running of roofing jobs across multiple sites
• Carry out roof inspections, surveys and condition reports, including photos and defect recording
• Support planning and scheduling of roofing gangs, subcontractors and scaffolding
• Check that access and edge protection, scaffolding and working-at-height controls are in place before work starts
• Monitor health and safety compliance, including RAMS, toolbox talks and site inductions
• Order and manage roofing materials, deliveries, skips and site logistics
• Carry out quality checks during and after works so that installations meet specification and manufacturer guarantees
• Measure up roofs and help prepare quantities, quotes, variations and basic valuations
• Track progress against programme and report issues, weather delays or extra works found on opening up
• Work with clients, residents, suppliers and subcontractors, keeping everyone informed
• Keep job records, photos, sign-offs and completion documentation up to date
• Learn company procedures, roofing methods, building regulations and industry standards (e.g. NFRC guidance and BS 5534)

Skills / Attributes:

Essential:

• Full UK driving licence (no more than 6 points)
• Background in roofing or construction, either on the tools or in a supervisory role
• Comfortable working at height and carrying out roof inspections
• Literate and numerate, with good IT skills (Microsoft Office)
• Able to coordinate roofing operatives and subcontractors
• Professional communication skills, with clients and the public as well as site teams
• Self-motivated, organised and keen to learn

Desirable:

• CSCS card
• SMSTS or SSSTS
• Working at height, PASMA or asbestos awareness training
• NVQ in roofing or a related trade
