Full job description

Kip McGrath Clydebank is looking for positive, reliable and enthusiastic tutors to join our growing team.

We are recruiting:

  • Primary teachers able to support pupils in Maths and English up to CFE level 3
  • Secondary Maths teachers able to support pupils through S1–S3, National 5, Higher and possibly Advanced Higher (not required)
  • Secondary English teachers able to support pupils through S1–S3, National 5, Higher and possibly Advanced Higher (not required)

Please apply for the area that best matches your qualifications, subject knowledge and experience.

This role would suit qualified teachers, experienced tutors or student teachers in the later stages of their teaching degree who are looking for flexible part-time work outside school hours.

At Kip McGrath, tutors can focus on what matters most: teaching. Lessons are delivered using structured Kip McGrath programmes and purpose-built learning software, reducing preparation and marking time while allowing each pupil to follow an individual learning programme.

About the role

You will work with pupils in a supportive small-group setting while providing individual teaching and guidance throughout each session.

Depending on your subject and age-group specialism, your responsibilities may include:

  • Teaching primary or secondary pupils in Maths and/or English
  • Delivering structured lessons using the Kip McGrath methodology and learning platform
  • Supporting pupils with gaps in learning, confidence and core skills
  • Helping secondary English/Maths pupils prepare for National 5 or Higher, where appropriate
  • Building positive and encouraging relationships with pupils
  • Maintaining accurate online records of pupil progress and goals
  • Providing clear, professional feedback to parents when required
  • Following safeguarding, centre and data-protection procedures
  • Attending scheduled sessions reliably and punctually
  • Working positively as part of the Clydebank centre team

Sessions take place mainly after school, during evenings and at weekends. Tutors will normally take responsibility for one or more regular weekly sessions and assessments, with the potential for additional hours as pupil numbers and the centre timetable grow.

Primary tutor opportunities

Primary applicants should be confident supporting pupils with:

  • Numeracy and core Maths skills
  • Reading and comprehension
  • Spelling, grammar and writing
  • Confidence and gaps in learning
  • Preparation for the move from primary to secondary school

Primary tutors would normally teach both Maths and English.

Secondary Maths tutor opportunities

Secondary Maths applicants should be confident supporting pupils with some or all of the following:

  • S1–S3 Maths
  • National 5 Maths
  • National 5 Applications of Mathematics
  • Higher Maths
  • Higher Applications of Mathematics (optional)
  • Advanced Higher Mathematics (optional)
  • Exam technique and preparation

Secondary English tutor opportunities

Secondary English applicants should be confident supporting pupils with:

  • S1–S3 English
  • National 5 English
  • Higher English
  • Advanced Higher English (optional)
  • Reading and comprehension
  • Grammar, spelling and writing skills
  • Confidence and gaps in learning

About you

To succeed in this role, you should have:

  • A friendly, professional and encouraging manner
  • The ability to build positive relationships with pupils and parents
  • Confidence using computers and learning software
  • Good organisation and attention to detail
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • A genuine interest in helping children and young people build confidence
  • The reliability to commit to the sessions you agree to teach

Essential requirements

  • Relevant teaching qualification, degree or current teacher-training status
  • Right to work in the United Kingdom
  • PVG Scheme membership, or willingness to complete the required application
  • Ability to work in person at the Clydebank centre
  • Availability for at least two regular weekly teaching sessions and two assessment sessions

Desirable requirements

  • GTCS registration
  • Experience teaching or tutoring children or young people
  • Experience with Curriculum for Excellence
  • Experience supporting National 5 or Higher (Secondary)

  • Minimal preparation and marking compared with classroom teaching
  • Small-group sessions with individualised pupil programmes
  • Flexible part-time hours outside the normal school day
  • Training and support before independently delivering sessions
  • Opportunity for additional hours as the Clydebank centre grows
  • A positive and pupil-focused working environment

Teachers enjoy the flexibility of working with Kip McGrath and the opportunity to focus directly on pupil progress without many of the wider pressures associated with classroom teaching.
