Job Title: Database Administrator

Salary: Grade E - £41,500 - £46,954 per annum

Location: 2 Callaghan Square, Cardiff, CF10 5BT

Contract: Permanent

Reporting to: Director of IT and Programmes

Hours of Work: Full time (34.75 hours per week)

The Church in Wales is a Province of the Anglican Communion, comprising of six dioceses, with more than 1000 churches and 14 separate offices. The IT Department supports all offices and is expanding services to the six diocesan Cathedrals.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Database Administrator to oversee the maintenance, transformation and development of the data architecture, systems and processes that will underpin data driven decision making across the Church in Wales.

The postholder will play a key role in leading transformation of the organisation’s data architecture and administering our databases and information systems, ensuring customer focused design, reliability, security, and effectiveness in meeting organisational needs.

This role will be collaborative (colleagues and external partners) and will deliver robust technical solutions and high-quality support. A key component of the role is the ability to produce clear, concise specifications based on business need into infrastructure that supports effective business functioning and customer expectation.

The nature of this role may require some flexibility in terms of working hours and location. Applications from candidates interested in alternative work patterns will be considered; however, business needs may limit the arrangements offered.

Essential

· Highly developed mathematical skills, evidenced by a degree level qualification in maths, science or computer science.

· Expert level programming skills with at least five years professional experience with a range of programming languages.

· Expert level SQL coding skills with at least five years professional experience.

· Working knowledge of PHP and ASP with the ability to read and understand code produced in those languages.

· Detailed technical and practical understanding of the analysis of user requirements, creation of specification documents, and development of programs.

Skills and Competencies

· Highly developed technical specification writing skills.

· Up to date knowledge of programming related software.

· A creative approach to analysing client specifications against the development of appropriate databases.

· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

· Resilience in face of adversarial user communication.

· An ability to communicate technical information to non-technical users.

· An ability to communicate technical information in at the required detail level to external technical developers and contacts.

· Knowledge of VMWare and Office 365.

Desirable

· Prior experience in managing a team.

· Willingness and ability to travel as required.

· Flexible and adaptable approach to working hours, including occasional evenings or weekends if required.

· Commitment to upholding organisational values and promoting a positive team culture.

· Ability to speak and understand Welsh.
