An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Clinical Coding team at Testvale Surgery.

As a Clinical Coder you will work closely with your colleagues and clinicians to ensure that all medical diagnoses, procedures, and treatments are coded accurately and in a timely manner.

The post holder may also be required to undertake a wide range of administrative duties, to contribute to the smooth running of the practice and provide support to the whole multidisciplinary team.

The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills along with strong IT skills; be forward thinking and have a can-do attitude. Full training will be given but a willingness to learn and develop is essential.

The surgery has high levels of patient satisfaction and a friendly and supportive working environment. Excellent administration skills and the ability to work under pressure are essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and analyse clinical documentation to accurately assign codes to diagnoses, procedures, treatments and results
  • Filing of clinical correspondence into the clinical system (Emis)
  • Annotating documents for the clinicians
  • Accurately workflow documents to ensure appropriate action is taken
  • Ensure compliance with coding guidelines and regulations to maintain quality and integrity.
  • Collaborate with wider team and healthcare professionals to clarify information and resolve coding discrepancies
  • Miscellaneous administrative tasks as required

We have well-established charitable support in the Friends of Testvale Surgery, who help us to improve the care we provide for our patients.

The post-holder will assist in promoting and maintaining their own and others health, safety and security as defined in the practice Health & Safety Policy, to include:

  • Using personal security systems within the workplace according to practice guidelines.
  • Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks.
  • Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills.
  • Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards.
  • Reporting potential risks identified.

The post-holder will:

  • Apply practice policies, standards and guidance.
  • Discuss with other members of the team how the policies, standards and guidelines will affect own work.
  • Participate in audit where appropriate.
