Job Summary

We are seeking skilled Pointers to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for restoring and maintaining the integrity of historic and traditional masonry structures through precise lime mortar pointing techniques. This role offers an excellent opportunity to work on heritage projects, in this case Clitheroe Castle ensuring the preservation of architectural heritage with attention to detail and craftsmanship.

Duties

  • Prepare surfaces by cleaning and removing old mortar using hand tools and power tools to ensure proper adhesion.
  • Mix and apply hot lime mortar accurately, following project specifications and safety standards.
  • Use masonry skills to fill joints, repair cracks, and restore brickwork with precision.
  • Operate various tools including trowels, chisels, drills, and other masonry equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure timely completion of projects while maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Assist with site preparation, including scaffolding setup and safety checks as required.
  • Maintain a clean work environment by clearing debris and ensuring tools are stored correctly after use.

Experience

  • Proven experience lime mortar pointing.
  • Familiarity with hand tools, power tools.
  • Knowledge of traditional masonry techniques and materials is highly desirable.
  • Prior experience working on heritage or restoration projects will be considered an asset.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and project specifications accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and commitment to craftsmanship are essential for success in this role.

This position offers a rewarding opportunity for individuals passionate about preserving historic architecture through skilled craftsmanship using traditional methods combined with modern techniques. Pay is negotiable and dependant on experience.
