Forever Teaching is recruiting a committed and compassionate School Youth Worker to support schools across Rochdale and surrounding areas.

This is a full-time role supporting children and young people both in the classroom and on a 1:1 basis, helping them overcome barriers to learning and promoting their personal, social and academic development.

We are looking for confident, resilient and approachable individuals who can build positive relationships with pupils, particularly those with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, challenging behaviour or additional learning needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver targeted 1:1 and small-group interventions to pupils facing social, emotional or behavioural challenges
  • Build trusting relationships with young people to develop confidence, resilience and emotional regulation
  • Support pupils with SEMH, SEND, Autism, ADHD and trauma-related needs
  • Use positive behaviour management and de-escalation strategies where appropriate
  • Encourage positive attitudes towards learning, independence and personal development
  • Work closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams, SENCOs and external agencies
  • Monitor and report on pupil progress, contributing to individual support plans and reviews
  • Act as a positive role model, maintaining clear professional boundaries and consistent support

  • Understanding of the social, emotional and behavioural barriers affecting young people
  • Confidence managing challenging behaviour and promoting positive engagement
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • A patient, resilient and empathetic approach
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and adapt to individual pupil needs
  • Relevant qualifications in youth work, education, psychology or mental health are desirable but not essential

We also welcome applications from candidates with transferable experience in sports coaching, mentoring, residential care, support work, mental health services and community youth programmes.

Why Apply?

  • Full-time, term-time opportunities
  • Long-term placements across Rochdale
  • Opportunities within mainstream and specialist SEND/SEMH settings
  • Valuable experience supporting children and young people with additional needs
  • Excellent pathway into education, pastoral support, SEND or teaching careers
  • Ongoing support from Forever Teaching
  • Access to training and professional development

If you're passionate about supporting young people and believe you could make a positive difference as a School Youth Worker, apply today with your CV and a member of the Forever Teaching team will be in touch.
