OVERVIEW
Groundtech Consulting is seeking a practical, motivated, and detail-oriented Environmental Technician to join our growing geo-environmental team.
As an Environmental Technician, you will play a key role in contaminated land assessments, undertaking field monitoring, environmental sampling, and testing of ground gas and groundwater. Your work will help identify and assess potential sources of contamination that may impact human health and controlled waters.
You will be responsible for collecting accurate site data and samples, which will contribute to both factual and interpretative reports supporting land development projects and environmental assessments across the UK. The role will also involve assisting with intrusive ground investigations, including the monitoring of boreholes and gas wells, groundwater sampling, and general site-based environmental monitoring activities.
The position requires regular travel to sites nationwide, with overnight stays and periods of working away from home. Candidates should be comfortable working outdoors in a variety of environments, possess a proactive approach to health and safety, and be willing to support a range of geo-environmental and contaminated land projects as part of a collaborative team.
Comprehensive training will be provided to develop a strong foundation of technical knowledge, with opportunities to further specialise and pursue areas of individual interest as your career progresses.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ground Gas Monitoring: Plan and undertake ground gas monitoring visits, including the measurement of methane, carbon dioxide, oxygen, and other relevant gases in accordance with industry guidance and project requirements.

- Water Sampling: Collect groundwater and surface water samples from monitoring wells, boreholes, and watercourses using specialist equipment and in accordance with established quality assurance procedures.
- Data & Equipment Management: Download, process, and manage monitoring data; maintain accurate field records; calibrate and maintain monitoring equipment; and prepare monitoring data for reporting purposes.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ground Investigation Support: Assist Geo-environmental Engineers with intrusive site investigations, including soil logging support, sample collection, groundwater monitoring, and general site activities.
- Reporting & Office Support: Assist with the preparation of factual data, ground gas risk assessments, and other technical deliverables, as well as supporting general office and project administration activities where required.
- Health & Safety: Prepare site-specific health and safety documentation, including risk assessments and method statements, and promote safe working practices during all site activities.
- Travel & Site Work: Undertake regular travel to sites across the UK, including occasional overnight stays, and work effectively in a range of outdoor environments and weather conditions.
- Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and organise monitoring and sampling equipment to ensure it remains calibrated, serviceable, and ready for deployment.
- Vehicle Management: Assist in maintaining company vehicles, ensuring they are clean, roadworthy, and appropriately stocked for fieldwork.
