We are looking for a motivated Project Support Officer to join our small busy Peterborough based team who deliver the work of PPS, Oakdene Hollins and RECOUP.

Supported by Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority, this paid internship is an excellent opportunity to learn and develop skills across a number of projects and disciplines in the sustainability and environmental sector, with a focus on resources, circularity and recycling.

The successful candidate will be a data and science driven individual with an organised and can-do attitude. Working closely with the team and reporting to relevant project managers, the role will be to support and deliver projects and research for a wide range of customers in a number of programme areas. This will include technical research, data and evidence gathering and analysis, project and office administration, and report writing together with general project support activities.

A practical and hands on approach is also needed for various non-desk-based activities connected to this role which may include sorting and weighing waste and recyclable materials, laboratory testing, equipment testing, van driving, schools education and consumer engagement.

The general role requirements are set out below, with training and support provided.

  • Good organisational skills
  • A good command of English and able to write technical and summary documents
  • Proficient with general scientific principles and data analysis, and experience of working in a laboratory
  • Proficient in MS Office (word, excel, powerpoint, teams)
  • Degree graduate or studying towards a degree
  • Based in Cambridgeshire, and not currently in education, employment or training
  • Willingness to learn and undertake training where appropriate
  • Genuine interest in resource efficiency, sustainability and circular economy.

In addition, any of the following attributes are desirable;

  • Have an awareness of or can use Python computer programming at a minimum basic level
  • Driving license.
  • Willing to occasionally work outside of normal office hours and throughout the UK (costs are covered)

Summary

Job Type: Full Time, 12 week internship with good potential to extend, working from the Peterborough office at least 2-3 days per week.

Salary: £23.5k per annum (pro rata for part time hours)

Work Location: Peterborough, PE2 7UH with hybrid working option

Schedule: Monday to Friday (occasional evening /overnight stays/ weekends outside of the area). Core work hours are 35 per week, generally 8.30am to 4.30pm Monday to Thursday, and 8.30am to 2pm on Fridays. (we may consider shorter weekly hours for the right candidate if required).
