Job Title: Bioveterinary Scientist, Blood Sciences
Salary: £30,000 - £35,000
Location: Leamington Spa
Job Type: Permanent, Full Time
Hours: 37.5 hours per week. 6am - 2pm, Tuesday - Saturday

At Antech, we are passionate about creating A Better World for Pets, and we are looking for a detail-driven Bioveterinary Scientist to join our team. You will provide high-quality diagnostic laboratory services, using your scientific knowledge and technical skills to ensure the accurate and timely analysis of animal samples and support the health and wellbeing of animals.

Key responsibilities include:

• Analyse blood samples using advanced laboratory instruments including ADVIA 2120i, Beckman AU5800, Immulite 2000 XPi, Horriba Yumizen G800, Clinitek Novus/Aimstrip and CellaVision DM9600.
• Carry out analyser setup, calibration and maintenance.
• Perform blood smear morphology assessments using CellaVision and glass slides.
• Conduct urinalysis, including urine sediment examination, urolith analysis and serology testing using LFT devices and immunoassays.
• Follow and contribute to the review of relevant SOPs, policies, Health & Safety and Quality Assurance guidelines.
• Maintain high standards of quality control, accurate specimen handling and documentation.
• Participate in departmental training and continuous improvement activities.
• Maintain a clean, safe and organised laboratory environment and assist with inventory management.
• Work effectively both independently and collaboratively, supporting wider laboratory activities and special projects as required.

Experience and skill set required:

• Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in a Science-related field, such as Biomedical Science, Medical Laboratory Science or Biochemistry.
• Previous clinical laboratory experience, ideally within a diagnostic environment.
• Experience with automated analysers, including setup and maintenance.
• Strong attention to detail and experience handling and documenting specimens accurately.
• Excellent organisational, communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, high-throughput environment.
• Experience with blood smear morphology, including RBC, WBC and platelet morphology, manual differentials, and identification of parasites and intracellular bacteria is highly desirable.
• Previous experience in serology testing, including ELISA or IFA.
• Competent in data entry, Microsoft Office and laboratory information systems.
• Able to work independently and as part of a team, with flexibility to adapt to changing workloads and priorities.
• A customer-focused approach, recognising the importance of accurate and timely results to veterinary professionals, clients and animal patients.
